Bravo Company Beasts claim victory in the 10th Engineer Battalion’s Org Day on Friday, 19 FEB 21 at Camp Hovey, Republic of Korea. For a day, each of our seven companies stepped away from ranges, desks, and motor pools and stepped onto fields, courts, and the Super Smash Brothers stage, to compete and cheer each other to victory. Meet Your Raider: SGT Charles J. Clontz SGT Clontz, a 91L Construction Equipment Mechanic, serves as the Alpha Company Field Maintenance Team (FMT) Motor Sergeant. Clontz specializes in hydraulics for dozers, excavators, graders, and skid steerers, the equipment that allows engineers to shape the physical environment. More than that, he manages the maintenance for Bradleys, Armored Vehicle Launch Bridge (AVLB) and Assault Breaching Vehicles (ABV). A natural teacher, he loves... guiding his team of 13 soldiers and 4 NCOs; it's the paperwork that proves challenging. "The fault verification and problem solving are hands-on. Building the Equipment Status Report (ESR) is crucial, but it's strange to sit behind a desk," Clontz explains. Clontz has turned wrenches for the BEB since JUN 2019. Prior to Active Duty service, he served 6 years with the Kentucky National Guard near his hometown of Crab Tree, KY. In 2017, Clontz deployed to Syria with the Special Operations Joint Task Force (SOJTF) Operation Inherent Resolve where he ran the construction equipment in the heat of the counter-ISIS fight. Surviving meant learning to fix the equipment in a pinch, in addition to running it. Clontz decided to continue service and apply those skills full time as a maintainer. At home, Clontz relishes the time with his wife, Tosha, and their 4 children. Georgia has presented him with plenty of freshwater and saltwater fishing and game hunting opportunities- bass, catfish, sharks, hogs, and turkeys. Up next in the Army, SGT Clontz plans to "hit 6" and re-enlist for Ft. Campbell, KY to be close to family in Kentucky and to check out drill sergeant options.
