Single leg or asymmetrical movement is often the most functional way of training. When done properly, the lumbo-pelvic biomechanics preferentially recruit lower body musculature as opposed to spinal extensor musculature. We have found these as a quick remedy for someone who feels their back while lifting. This enables continued progress toward a desired physiological adaptation while opposing over-reliance on extension based movement patters. More on this to come.... We also feel that it is a gross misconception that unilateral work needs to be at low weight... notice the 40’s

[Game Ready | Hyperice | Normatec Boots] Yes we have them. Yes we use them. However, we nearly always emphasize ACTIVE treatment over passive modalities. Modalities have their place during treatment, but you have to earn them. Body awareness throughout pain free movement is always our goal. ... If something passive gets you there so be it, just don’t rely on it.

Proud to partner with, and carry Citadel Nutrition products for our patients and athletes. John and Daniel continuously work to create quality supplements supported by research, which we confidently recommend to our clients. Proper supplementation enhances competitive advantage when paired with optimal training. We now offer both.

[CHRONIC PAIN CASE] Patient presented today with chronic pain in upper left ribs at costo-chondral margin (where ribs meet sternum). This localized pain had been ongoing for 8 months and became worse with activities that included thoracic spine rotation or extension, also with deep breathing. Upon exam, significant differences in horizontal gleno-humeral abduction (looked like asymmetrical pec tightness) were noted, along with tenderness of costo-chodular area at ribs 2-5. N...o other significant findings. This prompted us to head to the smart paint to show our patient that asymmetrical pec tightness (shown in blue) can be caused by an underlying skeletal functional asymmetry (in this case a suspected preference for right rotation). Instead of attempting to stretch a left pec we worked on allowing the rib cage, sternum and spine to actualize true left rotation. Our @posturalrestoration interventions focused on dropping left ribs during an exhalation, then maintaining that relatively leftward oriented position while inhaling predominantly into his right lateral rib cage. After a few minutes of this positional breathing, the patients horizontal abduction changed dramatically and is now symmetrical. Likely leading to an equalization of force exerted at all costo-chondral margins during rotational or extension biased activity.
