Alan's Used Books 09.11.2020

I know I said the store would close in late June and I know I said it'd be open normal hours this week but I'm afraid the selection is pretty thin now so the store is going to be open by chance or appointment while I get things wrapped up. If you'd like to buy a bookcase or if you have store credit you'd like to either redeem or cash out (or if you'd just like to visit with the cat) let me know and I can definitely work with you. I'm sorry about the inconsistency; I'm new to closing down a business and I overestimated how long it would take to get to this point. I know a lot of you are long-time customers and I really value your patronage over the years. Leaving this town, this bookstore, and this community is really painful no matter what might be ahead for me --Alan

Hey everyone, I'm sorry for the late notice but the store will be closed on Saturday so I can take care of some closing-up business that I can't do on Sunday. If you would like to buy a bookcase I can be here by appointment Saturday or Sunday. If you have store credit PLEASE get in touch with me so we can discuss your options. I absolutely want to deal fairly with you all.

Help me and Cormac get on the road by clearing out some of these shelves for us! Most of the bookcases were designed and built by my dad and my brother (an engineer and a scientist) so they're much more solid and lovingly crafted than anything you'll find at IKEA. I'm asking $25 each for them and you can even pay with store credit! I'll help you load them but you'll need to provide transportation. Speaking of store credit if you're worried that you won't be able to redeem it before I go PLEASE send me a message and we will work something out. You've all been so good to me and I want to do as right by you as I possibly can --Alan

The store will be closed Monday so I can attend a funeral and hours are going to be fuzzy while I try to tie up loose ends. I'm sorry for the inconvenience and I really appreciate your patience and all the kindness and support you've all sent my way on facebook and in person. If you have store credit and you're worried you won't be able to redeem it before I close (end of June at the latest, earlier if possible) please send me a message and we'll work something out. You've been such wonderful customers and friends and I want to do as right by you as I possibly can -Alan

Hey everyone, there was a death in my family last night and I am helping to make arrangements today. I'll be back tomorrow and the store might be closed on Monday for her funeral. I'm really sorry about the inconvenience but I PROMISE I will be available so you can square up your store credit. Thank you all so much for your understanding and your kind words. It means a lot to me (and Cormac) --Alan

I know this is sudden, trust me it's sudden for me too. I've gotten an opportunity that I can't afford not to take and Cormac and I will be moving by the end of June. Until then I'm no longer buying or trading books (aside from textbooks); I'm still honoring all store credit, and I am open to any reasonable offers as far as inventory, shelves, and fixtures. I have loved living and working in this town while it's been kind enough to let me call it home. Rome is a really specia...l place and nobody could have asked for more wonderful neighbors, customers, and friends than you have all been to me. There are so many familiar faces I'm going to miss and I hope you all have a chance to see Cormac and me before we go. --Alan

$1 SALE! I've got a bunch of inventory coming in soon and nowhere to put it! Please help me make room by shopping the $1 sale. All the books with a round tag on the spine are just $1, and there are more throughout the store!

"I think it's easy to mistake understanding for empathy - we want empathy so badly. Maybe learning to make that distinction is part of growing up. It's hard and ugly to know somebody can understand you without even liking you."

Be sure to come downtown today for Downtown Rome Saturday! Also please remember Broad Street will be closed today (so it might not be the best day to bring trades) and the shop will be closing at 5pm! -Alan
