October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and we are shining a light on The Pink Valise owner Amanda Smith as this month’s People of ACC spotlight. Amanda, a breast cancer survivor, opened The Pink Valise in 2015 after receiving a special message from a stranger: In December 2012, my sister Tracie and I were praying for guidance as to what kind of business venture Tracie should start. We attended a Christmas party where Tracie was tapped on the shoulder by a kind girl who to...ld her that God said to step out and take a leap of faith in starting her business. This was a beautiful message from a beautiful stranger, and we credit it as a pivotal moment in both of our careers. The Pink Valise’s motto is A Passion for Fashion and A Cure for Cancer. In each of Amanda’s two boutique locations, you will find a vase on the back counter that contains the names of customers’ loved ones currently fighting the disease. Amanda and her staff pray over the vases regularly. The Pink Valise also donates a percentage of its profits yearly to a family who has been impacted by cancer to use in any way they wish. Each year, Amanda’s store hosts an annual girl’s night out fundraiser for a different cancer foundation, which has previously included Susan G. Komen of Atlanta, Archbold Oncology Center and CURE Childhood Cancer. Amanda says she is motivated daily by her daughters, who were 4 and 6 years old when she was diagnosed with breast cancer; they are 17 and 19 now. We are inspired by Amanda and her story of strength and courage, and we are proud to have her as a part of the Alpharetta City Center community.
