Good afternoon! Though we chose to take precaution and postpone today's livecast due to expected rough weather, which seems to have missed Athens after all... in place of a video, I would still like to share a few photos of the houses I intended to talk about today, which are believed to have been involved with the Underground Railroad! As you may already know, historically, Milledge Avenue was an affluent residential street. During the Civil War, the homes that are now used... by Alpha Delta Pi, Phi Mu, and Kappa Alpha Theta are believed to have been involved with the Underground Railroad. Legend has it that all three houses were connected to one another by tunnels, and that the families living in those houses worked together using this tunnel system to assist enslaved Athenians on their path to freedom. Ladies who have lived in these sorority houses over the years have searched for the tunnels, but they have never been found. Maybe they haven't searched hard enough!
