Seven members of Athens Academy’s Class of 2022 have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program based on their performance on the October 2020 PSAT/NMSQT. Congratulations to Daniel Huang, who has been named a National Merit Semi-finalist. As a semi-finalist, Daniel represents the top 1-2% of the highest scoring seniors across the country. In addition, six seniors have been recognized as National Merit Commended Students, representing the top 3-4% of the highes...t scorers across the country. Congratulations to Steven Holder, Ethan Markewitz, Kathryn Nichols, Ingrid Nilsson, Davis Slate, and Bennett Slatcher. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Of the 1.4 million entrants, some 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores (critical reading + mathematics + writing skills scores) qualify for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Way to go, Spartans!
We had two very special visitors drop by today to share an item from Athens Academy’s history! Class of 1977 members Amy Lunsford Hulett (left) and Carol Hargreaves Ryan found a gavel from the Athens Academy Parents Club, of which Amy’s father Buck Lunsford was president from 1968-1970. The Parents Club was the predecessor of the Parent Service Organization. Amy and her sister Linda Lunsford McDuffie ‘73 found the gavel while going through their parents’ (Buck and Beth Lunsf...ord) home recently. Thanks for dropping by, Spartans! We hope you’ll come by again soonyou are always welcome here! #spartanforever #acadalumni #noplacelikethea
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. To highlight this important topic and to keep this initiative top of mind, we will be sharing posts and resources throughout the month on social media and SpartanNet. It is essential that parents speak to children about treating each other with kindness and respect and also lending a hand when they observe mean-spirited behavior happening around them. As a community, we need to make a commitment to support and care for one another every day. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our counseling staff (Morgan Jones, Carrie Olson, and Bob Sears) with any questions at any time, and please take a moment to look over the resource below. Thank you! https://www.pacer.org/bullying/nbpm/history.asp

Today marks the 30th anniversary of Zeus' Birthday at Athens Academy, and the fifth grade gods and goddesses are ready to party! They each dressed up and brought an appropriate gift to present to Zeus during his banquet later this morning. Such a fun and enduring tradition that marks the culmination of our study of Greek mythology! #acadtraditions

As case numbers are on the rise in our region, we ask that our families continue to be vigilant in wearing masks, social distancing, and following other guidelines from the Department of Public Health and the CDC. Let’s support our medical community and frontline workers by helping keep our numbers down. Thank you, Spartans! #letsstayspartanstrong
Athens Academy is pleased to host Honda Power Equipment as they celebrate the many accomplishments of Mr. Michael Davenport during National Disability Employment Awareness month!
Special thanks to the Oconee County Fire and Rescue team for visiting Preschool yesterday! We learned about fire safety, the parts of a fire engine, and what firefighters wear when they go into a burning building. The best part was playing "Get Out and Stay Out" with Firefighter Emily! So much fun!
