Halloween is one of our favorite holidays at the Academy and it’s really awesome to get to celebrate it together in this weird, weird time. #atlantahomeschool #theacademy30338 #homeschoolingmiddleschool
It's midterms week at the Academy, and here's what our high school students have done so far this year: voted in their first election! gotten into college! volunteered with political campaigns read one of the weirdest, most confusing novels they will probably ever experience... explored the history of Heian, medieval, and Muromachi periods of Japanese history learned to identify all kinds of demons, ghosts, and other spirits that inhabit Japanese literature studied the fundamentals of Shintoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism discovered how to map Japan (and how a lot of our geographical ideas about Japan are based on misconceptions) delved into the nature of motion and its philosophical and scientific implications read entire passages in Latin shared Shinto myths in class presentations translated a hundred pages of Spanish applied math to physics problem impressed the heck out of their teachers with their creative thinking, persistence, and hard work! This week marked the third anniversary of the junior high's THE RAVENING, in which students compete to give the best rendition of Poe's classic (and Suzanne's favorite) spooky poem. Let's just say it was pretty spectacular.
People who took Amy's Victorian Gender and Sexuality class will appreciate this!
FYI: We had a spot open up in the Academy's high school (8-12 grade), which meets twice a week online or in person.
Happy Indigenous Peoples Day!
We may only have one official school rule, but it covers pretty much everything!
Why does it look like our student teacher is trying to start an indie rock band with the kids? No wonder they think she’s the coolest! (The fact that she actually IS the coolest doesn’t hurt!) #theacademy30338 #atlantahomeschool #ourstudentteacherrocks
Can’t wait to see what the students add to our welcome wall! #theacademy30338 #atlantahomeschool
The Academy is opening up its drama club to any middle and high school homeschool students who want to join! Because of the craziness of the world, our drama club is running all-online this year, and we're planning to put on at least one online production. Actors and tech folks welcome. It's free to join and participate you just have to show up! :) (This is a student club, not a formal class.) Fill out the Google Form to get added to the list!
When our students map Japan, they really map Japan! (Isn’t this ridiculously gorgeous?) #theacademy30338 #atlantahomeschool #homeschoolinghighschool
Holy forking shirt-balls, you guys! The Philosophy of "The Good Place" starts tomorrow! (Find the class login on Slack in the morning!)
We get the cutest visitors! #theacademy30338 #atlantahomeschool
