Great article on becoming an animal behaviorist...NOT a dog "trainer"..there is a difference! There are a good number of "Trainers" who refer to themselves as ...a behaviorist yet they use punitive and archaic methods that are inhumane. In fact, some even have globally syndicated TV shows or late night infomercials offering "their" methods for sale on DVD. Even some of the biggest retail locations for pets subscribe to these theory helping to misinform many many animal lovers who look to them as a trustworthy source of information. Sadly no one has taught dogs to speak human and voice their outcry about being stuck in the dark ages!! And apparently the public is OK with this because as of yet there is NO LICENSE required to be a dog trainer, NO PENALTY for misrepresenting yourself and NO Governing body to investigate this matter. You have to have a license to paint nails or cut hair...but if you wanna try your hand at working with dog aggression all you need is a good website! Animals are sentient beings who trust us to keep them safe. Could you imagine finding out your Primary Care Doctor or your child's psychologist was just winging it?? Most people are unaware of this and your dog may be(IS) at risk if you don't know the how to tell.
