Fun Fact: I have the pleasure of practicing law with Attorney Alex Aron, a dear friend of mine from high school, whom I've known for over 22 years. Last year when she invited me to join the firm where she works, I immediately said YES. Today we celebrate Alex's promotion to partner of Vivid IP. Alex, you are one of the hardest working women in law, you are a brilliant patent and trademark attorney, and I'm so happy our career paths merged. #DareToDream #LawyerUP #LawLadies

I miss live music and the broader "gathering" industry. Kudos to this Arkansas venue for pioneering the "socially distant concert," while we navigate this new corona world. "It's all one big experiment, and we're all in it together. If you wanna go to a show, you've gotta be ready to experience some things you may have never experienced at a concert before. But understand that it's always for the greater good." -James Shotwell Love & miss you guys. Please wear your mask, wash... your hands, take care of one another, and be at peace. #ArtistatHeart

It's heartbreaking to see the entertainment industry bearing some of the worst economic side effects of the pandemic (without downplaying the enormous tragedy of human loss). Many tours, film festivals, and gaming conventions, for example, are planned out more than a year in advance, and since the future is less than certain right now due to COVID-19, the plug is being pulled on many events until at least 2021. I hope by then we'll get a new date on the calendar for Chris Stapleton and others who've had to cancel or postpone their events in Atlanta.

Who knew that 2 Live Crew was part of one of the greatest U.S. Supreme Court cases of all time regarding fair use & freedom of speech?

OK, it's official - the coronavirus has unleashed a new wave of creativity and collaboration in the music industry like I've never seen before. Live music may be on hold but long-distance collabs are in full swing. Unexpected appearances by... New Kids on the Block, Naughty by Nature, Boyz II Men, and... Ken Jeong? I'll take it! #KeepMakingArt #ArtistAtHeart

Happy 4/20 Day! Did you know Vivid IP offers trademark registration services for companies in the cannabis industry? The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued specific guidelines on how to do so, and we help guide clients through that complex process. #LawyerUp

Have you been "Zoombombed" yet? I've seen it happen! This week I was in a Zoom meeting with a state governmental agency that was giving a tutorial available to the public on the federal stimulus programs when a neo-nazi-wannabe hacked it, made himself a co-host, and started drawing profane images including swastikas on the screen. The agency couldn't regain control, so they had to abruptly end the meeting. Aside from it being kinda funny, I am in total disbelief at the lack... of security on Zoom and the lack of foresight by the state agency. User beware!

Is "Tiger King" a guilty [pun intended] pleasure? Yes, absolutely. Does it raise a multitude of compelling legal issues, including criminal, civil, and intellectual property law matters? You betcha! Imagine a law school exam on steroids, covered in a layer of gubernatorial politics and Hollywood level drama, and it's no wonder this show has become a binge-worthy national spectacle. #LawyerUp #IPLaw #EntertainmentLaw

Artists, please go to www.SBA.gov (the U.S. Small Business Administration) to apply for a $10,000 grant (aka, "forgivable loan") to help get you through the coronavirus shutdown. It is NOT your fault that the live entertainment industry has come to a screeching halt, depriving you of your livelihood. Sole proprietors, independent contractors, and gig workers are covered under the CARES Act - but you have to ASK for it! Additional relief packages are the works, but this offer is specifically for small businesses, and nearly everyone in the entertainment industry fits the definition of a small business.

Improvise. Adapt. Overcome. Kudos to Evo Entertainment in San Antonio for heeding the call. Art, humor, and love are part of the currency that will carry us through this pandemic together. #KeepCreating

"Fox's The Resident donated boxes of the production's masks, gloves, and gowns to an Atlanta hospital for its medical staff during the novel coronavirus pandemic." #Amen

Netflix creates a $100 million fund to help film & tv workers impacted by the quarantine. For reference, Georgia's COVID-19 emergency fund for the entire state is also $100 million. ----- "Almost all television and film production has now ceased globally leaving hundreds of thousands of crew and cast without jobs. These include electricians, carpenters and drivers, many of whom are paid hourly wages and work on a project-to-project basis, [Chief Content Officer Ted Sarand...os] said in a statement. This community has supported Netflix through the good times, and we want to help them through these hard times, especially while governments are still figuring out what economic support they will provide. So we’ve created a $100 million fund to help with hardship in the creative community.
