Columbus FB friends....this information was sent to me from the Emergency Management Meeting today....Please read and take Irma seriously. 1. When Hurricane Opa...l came through back in 95 or 96 time frame over 1,500 trees had fallen in Harris County and over 5,000 power lines were down or sheared off. Hurricane Irma is 3 times worse. 2. Our area will start feeling the early effects, forward of hurricane Irma, late tonight early Monday morning. 3. At 12 noon Monday the emergency management system will send out a code red alert. 4. The worst part of the storm will hit us from 2 p.m. Monday afternoon until 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. 5. It is recommended that this afternoon and tonight is the only time you have available to either drive to a safe area or to ensure you have 72 hours of provisions and emergency supplies in your home. 6. In Harris County, if the winds are Beyond 40 miles an hour no EMS, fire, or law enforcement will be deployed to assist any emergencies that arise. Only when the winds died down below 40 miles per hour will they deploy the vehicles to assist and help. 7. The anticipation of this storm is that we will lose 90% power in our County and many trees will fall and the reason for the 72 hours emergency provisions is how long it will take for First Responders to get to you after the trees and the power lines have been restored. 8. The center of the storm will be going directly across Columbus and because we are on the east side of the storm, which is the worst part of the storm we will receive a lot of damage. 9. If you have damage around your home down power lines, or trees, call the emergency management system and all they're going to do is put you on a list and based on priorities they will get to you when they can. 10. People need to check on their neighbors and get the word out. 11. Bring your pets inside. 12. Take care of yourselves...this storm is not to be Shrugged off as nothing.
