TODAY WAS THE DAY!!! Dr. Colby and Ben from Windward Animal Hospital made the trek to our shelter on this rainy day and brought the sunshine with them!! TOD...AY EVERY SINGLE BUN AT THE SHELTER WAS VACCINATED. Courtney, Kendall, and Jennifer have done an amazing job at our shelter to make today happen. We are so fortunate to have them. A huge thank you to everyone that donated to cover the cost of the microchipping and vaccinations for each of our rescues! Our remaining buns currently in foster homes will be vaccinated as they arrive back at our shelter after our quarantine is over.

WINDWARD ANIMAL HOSPITAL HOURS & AVAILABILITY UPDATE: We want to continue to provide the care you have come to expect for your pets while also helping to slow the spread of COVID-19. We would like to take a moment to discuss with you what we know about this virus, and what we are doing to help protect our clients and staff from becoming infected: First, what we know:... 1. The virus is spreading throughout the United States. There are new cases being discovered every day. 2. It preliminarily appears that Dogs and cats are not vector species (carriers) of COVID-19. However, it is always safe to assume there is a risk. 3. The CDC has asked that we practice social distancing. This means only going out to public places when absolutely necessary. It means avoiding close, personal contact whenever possible. It is an effort to slow the spread so that our healthcare system does not become overwhelmed. Second, what we are doing. Please keep in mind we are already have to operate in a sterile, fully-disinfecting environment as a normal mode of operation, however... 1. We plan to remain open for regular business hours and are still seeing appointments. 2) We are offering and encouraging drop off appointments to help prevent you from having to wait in the waiting room. These can be performed one of two ways - a) You call us from the parking lot and an assistant will come get your pet and a history. Then, either we can take your pet to the treatment area and you can wait in the parking lot and a doctor (or Vet Tech) will call you after the exam to discuss findings and recommendations or... b) You can drop your pet off and head home and we will call you there when the doctor has finished their exam. 3. Our staff may be wearing gloves when taking payments or while examining/treating your pets. This is being done in an over abundance of caution to help prevent spread of the virus as it can live on surfaces for a period of time. 4. We will be routinely cleaning door handles, credit card machines, counters and pens throughout the day, along with our normal deep cleaning at the end of every day. 5. VOLUNTEERS: We are limiting our volunteer staff as much as possible. The volunteers that we do have will have to be over the age of 18 or have written parental consent to be here. ------------------------------------------------- Now, what we are asking of you: 1. Have patience with us during this unusual time. Our primary concern remains the health and safety of everyone in the WAH family - pets and their humans alike. 2. If you have traveled to any affected areas or are in close personal contact with anyone who has, or if you are ill with respiratory symptoms and a fever, please consider rescheduling your appointment if it is not urgent or having a friend who has not been exposed bring your pet on your behalf.
