The Byers lab is thankful that we work in so many amazing places in #georgia! It’s important to remember the native peoples that lived in these places long before us. The Byers lab works in the traditional land of the Yamasee, Hitchiti, Oconee, Gaule, Yuchi, Muscogee Creek and Timucua Peoples, and honors with gratitude the land itself and the people who have stewarded it through the generations. #nativeamerican #thanksgiving #landacknowledgement #georgiacoast

This summer, grad student, Julie B. was on the Georgia coast for fieldwork in the mudflats and saltmarshes. It's a bit of a let down to wake up for sunrise fieldwork only to find the tides never drop low enough to access the site. But things don't always go according to plan, and you just have to go with the flow. That's just the nature of fieldwork, and we wouldn't trade it for the world. #ecology #research #WomenInSTEM

Happy Halloween from the Byers Lab! Enjoy this spooky picture of this Snowy egret wading through inky black waters in search of its prey. To identify a snowy egret, make sure to check for its black legs and distinctive yellow feet (though you can't tell from this photo). #birds #birding #SnowyEgret

With 342 sets of gills processed, 105 shrimp cages crafted, 75 decorator worms collected, 5 mud flat transects and 2 alligators wrestled, the Byers lab signs off on another great field season! "Sea" you next time on the Georgia coast!

While some members of the Byers lab are currently enjoying the beauty of the Georgia coast, others are riding the emotional roller coaster of getting model residuals that look like an actual roller coaster. #ecology #data #GAcoast #phdstudent
