25 years ago this month the feminist nonprofit La Fem was born. It was founded to support and empower women in rural Nicaragua. Recognizing rural women had very little access to economic mobility or control over their own bodies, La Fem started workshops, clinics and cooperatives to help women gain autonomy over their own lives. Over the years, La Fem has offered women training in male-dominated trades like farming, welding and construction. They’ve offered workshops... & legal support for victims of sexual violence. They’ve taught women how to read and then how to study. Then La Fem supported them as they graduated from high school and some from college. They’ve helped women organize into cooperatives, teaching them how to grow & commercialize coffee, honey and hibiscus. And they’ve given birth to Las Diosas (or The Goddesses), a women-owned coffee co-op that represents 362 women who are growing, harvesting & selling specialty grade, organic Arabica coffee. We get to support La Fem’s exceptional work through Las Diosas. You can taste Las Diosas’ coffee in our Nicaragua Medium Roast. Congratulations to 25 years of amazing work, La Fem! We are inspired by your work./Su trabajo es inspirador. Felicitaciones por 25 años. Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Mead. Sharing a few throwbacks from over the years with our importing friends & collaborators at Cooperative Coffees. We recently gathered for our first *virtual* AGM (annual general meeting) where we (among other things) celebrated 20 years as an importing co-op of roasters. Through Cooperative Coffees, we work alongs...ide 22 other roasters in the US and Canada to source fair trade, organic, specialty-grade Arabica coffee. And we do it sustainably- sourcing exclusively from farmer-owned cooperatives; re-investing in farmer-led projects that improve soil health and carbon sequestration and collectively working to reduce our own carbon footprints in North America. We are immensely inspired & energized by this small but mighty group of small businesses that spans as far south as Gainesville, Fla., to as far north as Whitehorse, Yukon territory. - But these 20 years have only been possible, because each one of us - in our respective communities- has found our own small but mighty group of customers who value sustainably sourced coffee. You, dear coffee drinker, are the last stop on this rich & vibrant supply chain. This is not possible without you, and we are so thankful for your support. See more

Today we celebrated International Coffee Day with a ribbon-cutting of our new location at the GSW campus. As coffee-lovers know, coffee is so much more than a beverage. It’s a medium for human connection. Coffee creates & fosters communities. It opens the doors for conversations, empathy and ultimately actions that can help foster a better now. So it seems fitting that on this October 1, in the middle of a pandemic, on the 96th birthday of President Jimmy Carter, we ga...thered at his alma mater to bring people together... over coffee. We are enormously grateful to the small-scale farmers who produce our coffee (the men and women who are stewarding the rise of regenerative agriculture in specialty coffee); the baristas who are on the frontlines of re-creating hospitality & specialty coffee with masks & social distancing; the Roastery & production staff who make the buying & selling of coffee possible; the true-to-their-values importing collaborators we’ve worked with at @coopcoffees ; the leaders here & abroad who are working to make specialty coffee more equitable & inclusive for all; and of course to our dear Americus community, whose support & enthusiasm during a pandemic (and everyday) is priceless. Cheers & See more

Forever amazed these hard little green seeds become one of the most popular drinks on the planet. On this eve of National Coffee Day, we share a little reverence for the craft, rituals & people who make coffee what it is. To all the farmers, roasters, independent coffee shop owners, baristas and consumers who keep this industry turning, thank you! And to all those working to make coffee more sustainable & equitable than it’s ever been, keep up the good work. You have our support
