Thank you to @PfisterFaucets for helping us end homelessness this holiday season. Colin Edelstein of Norsouth Constructs, CaringWorks Board Chair and Information Connoisseur, took first place in a trivia contest sponsored by Pfister. Pfister made a contribution to CaringWorks in honor of his achievement. Colin, Pfister, and friends like you help us help clients like Hannah and her children from our MOVE program. Each holiday gift enables us to provide the housing, help and... hope that transforms lives. Thank you again and happy holidays to you and yours. #caringworks #endhomelessness #onepersonatatime #housinghelphope #homelesshelp #gratitude #giving #donatetoday #amazon

Meet William. We thank him for his service to our country as a veteran and we thank him now as he aids the community in the battle against COVID-19. William works at the VA Hospital and has experienced the harm of this virus at first hand, but has also expressed his hope for the future. He is a part of our RISE VA Program community. Annie, a Florida native, has been in Atlanta for over 15 years. She was an accomplished basketball player in high school and continued on to higher education. In college, she started selling and using drugs. It went on for years which led to a nasty cycle of chronic homelessness. While on and off the streets, she lost touch with her children and her family; she lost everything. Life seemed to move on without her. The Quip program was the first program she enrolled in to recei...ve help. From there she was referred to the CaringWorks RISE program. The groups showed me how to live, she said. The program taught me that I can live a better life not out in the streets. Caring Does Work! CaringWorks Hope House provides one-of-a-kind emergency or transitional supportive housing for homeless men or men facing homelessness in Metro Atlanta. Each year more than 130 clients call Hope House home while they move through their journey of recovery. Justin, Hope House alumni and current warehouse manager, details how his time at Hope House gave him the tools he needed to start over again after a life on and off the streets, and in and out of trouble. The steps that I... went through in these programs were very important to my eventual success. I also found something bigger and greater than me to believe in, said Justin. When I came to the end of my old self, that’s where my new life began. A gift for you! GivingTuesday is a day to recognize and honor you! Today, we celebrate the volunteers, donors, corporate partners, staff and leadership team who enable us to serve the most vulnerable people in our community. We could not do this work without YOU. To quote a recent note from one of the 800+ people we helped this year - Without CaringWorks I don’t know how or when we would have acquired a place to call home. We came here in need. I was depressed, stressed, fu...ll of anxiety and hopeless. CaringWorks help me to understand that I was not alone and was here to help. Before entering this program, my son and I was sleeping in my car for months. I am forever eternally grateful. That is YOUR success! Thank you! If you are able to help us serve more people, we always need and welcome your gift. Thank you to @Misty Creek and Erin for saving us this weekend! Our regular chef had to isolate after a brief exposure to someone with COVID-19. We still had over 50 men at Hope House who needed three meals per day! We reached out to friends and Misty Creek’s Sack Lunch Brigade stepped in. And of all miracles, they had 400 EXTRA sandwiches because our new friend Erin had just celebrated her birthday by having friends get together to make sandwiches. Our men had plenty of food ...for the weekend. Erin, happy belated birthday. You certainly made it a happy weekend for the men of Hope House. Caring Does Work! Something good will come out of this. People will change for the better, said CaringWorks’ client, Martha, when asked about how the coronavirus has affected her way of life. People will be more kind, more loving, more understanding, and more forgiving. She went on to share, I buy candy for my neighbor's kids and give it to them when I can and it just makes me feel good to see them smile. Not long ago, Martha was homeless, hungry, and feeling hopeless. But, she was ready... to transform her life and she came to CaringWorks. This the effect of hope in a time of trouble. It’s World Health Day! Our nurses, midwives and other health workers are at the forefront of the COVID-19 response providing the care we need. WHO (World Health Organization) and their partners recommend a couple of ways the public can support them at this time: 1. Show nurses and midwives your appreciation for their work and thank them for what they do to keep us healthy. 2. Call on local leaders to do more to support nurses and midwives and make investments that enable them... to work to their full potential. Thank you to Wendy Corona of WSB-TV for telling the story of a very special Veteran in CaringWorks’ RISE VA program. Eugene is one of the many men and women with a story that needs to be told. If it wasn’t for this program and CaringWorks, I’d probably still be living on the streets, said Eugene Hardy Jr., a CaringWorks RISE VA resident. I’m grateful for this program. It has given me stability and self-worth. Eugene was chronically homeless and lived on the edge of a hig...h school in the woods. He chose to live near the track since it was important to him to have privacy, safety, and a place to exercise. After connecting with CaringWorks, he went from camping in the woods to an apartment in one day. Today, Eugene works out regularly with a group of Veterans, all with PTSD. They are helping each other thrive in the Atlanta community. The role of housing to healthcare is dramatic. Nothing demonstrates that more simply than a look at mortality rates. People who are homeless have higher rates of illness and die on average 12 years sooner than the general U.S. population. Middle-aged homeless men and young homeless women are at particularly increased risks. (The National Health Care for the Homeless Council) Have a seat with CaringWorks’ President and CEO, Dr. Carol Collard, and listen to some harsh facts a...bout the relationship between housing and healthcare. CaringWorks is one of the largest providers of supportive housing in the metropolitan Atlanta area, serving over 800 men, women and children in 2019! Working in partnership with a community of service providers, we share a common goal of ending homelessness, one person at a time. If you are homeless and need assistance, the first step is to register with the Coordinated Entry System in the area you have lived, or are currently living in. The systems typically have several acc...ess points. Simply dial 211 on your phone to speak with a live representative from the United Way of Greater Atlanta. They can help you find the most convenient place to register in the system. Outside of metro Atlanta, the State’s Toll-Free Hotline is: 1-844-249-8367 If you know someone who is homeless or could be facing homelessness, please share this information with them or your network of family and friends.
