Crossfit Encompass 28.12.2020

What’s Your Why Wednesday In the past couple of years I have had several people ask me about my fitness. Some of these people were friends or family and others were people I didn't know.I always tell them that I do crossfit, give a little information about Crossfit Encompass and invite them to come by and do a workout. I didn't know anything about crossfit until 2014 when I was a member at Kinetix and saw that Crossfit Encompass was opening a few doors down in the same compl...ex. I was getting bored with the muscle building workouts I was doing and decided to check crossfit out. I met Lindsey, and asked her some questions about crossfit. She made me feel welcomed, gave me some information and invited me to give it a try for one week. So I showed up for my first workout on the following Saturday 2/8/2014 and I will never forget that experience. My first workout was McGhee: 30 minute AMRAP of 5 Deadlifts 275, 13 Pushups, 9 Box Jumps 24" box. I scaled it to 225 Deadlifts and 20" Box. I don't know what my score was but I was wiped out and definitely hooked. At first, it was the new challenge and style of workouts that gave me the desire to keep coming back. It showed that cardio was a huge weakness in my fitness. As I continued go my reasons to keep going evolved to include the people that I have had the privilege to get to know over these past almost 7 years. It has been said many times before and I whole heavily agree, being a member of Crossfit Encompass is being part of a family. I have learned so much and really enjoy the camaraderie of our crossfit family. It doesn't matter what class time you go to you will always receive the support you need from both the coaches and members. I will continue to do crossfit as long as I am able because I love the challenges that help me with my fitness, the knowledge I gain and most importantly the family that I have become a part of. ~Mark Stevens See more

Merry Christmas to our Encompass family!

I came to CrossFit Encompass over two years ago when looking for a new gym after graduating and starting a new job. I was used to the traditional gym style and was very skeptical about trying CrossFit after hearing so many negative things about it. I tried it and got hooked immediately! All those stereotypes I believed were wrong. The workouts are challenging and functional, making me stronger both physically and mentally. I'm doing movements that I would have never even have... attempted at a normal gym. The coaches push you to be your best even when you don't want to be. And the community of people at CrossFit Encompass is unlike any other gym. There is no judgment based on your abilities and everyone wants to build you up. Numerous times during a workout when I see someone else pushing themselves it causes me to want to match that energy. #fothirtysquad #whatsthetimecap #betterthanplanetfitness

I’ve been asked how many years I have done CrossFit and I always tell people over 6 years, but only over 3 years consistently. I grew up playing sports competitively all the way through a couple seasons in college. After college I ran a ton and did some weights at your typical large chain gym, but I was getting very bored with it. I saw Lindsey Moriarty one day, she knew I was a competitive person and told me I should try CrossFit Encompass. I had all of the assumptions t...hat everyone else does: it’s intimidating, I need to get in shape first, I’m not strong enough, and my favorite I don’t want to get bulky. Even with my reservations I tried it anyway. I couldn’t do pull-ups, push-ups, or lift any heavy weights, but I remember my first time there and I saw other women doing pull-ups and I knew that was something I wanted to be able to do. As it turns out, none of my previous assumptions were true. I loved it from day one and have never looked back. Besides working out, the community at CrossFit Encompass, is what really had me coming back. As I said at the beginning, I was not consistent for my first 3 years. I was going through a very difficult time in my life and I was drinking alcohol way too much. I would show up to the gym a day or 2 and then disappear for 5 days or a week at a time. The other members would always ask me where I had been, is everything okay, and would encourage me to keep coming back. They had no idea that I was personally struggling, but they will never know that their constant support and genuine concern is what got me through some of my darkest days and help me quit drinking. Now that I am over 3 years alcohol free, I have become consistent, and those same people who encouraged me in my early days are now some of my best friends. We are each other’s biggest cheerleaders. Lastly, CrossFit has helped me set a good example for my family. We do family workouts and I like to show my kids that having muscles is cool and that we can do hard things. CrossFit Encompass is where I start my day. It is my therapy, it keeps me strong, and I have made the most amazing friends through it. I wish everyone would try it. -Megan See more

What’s your WHY WEDNESDAY I have always been considered pretty athletic: I’ve excelled in gymnastics, competitive dance and love to run. If I were not particip...ating in one of those activities, you would find me running on a treadmill. I have strong legs, flexibility, balance, but majorly lack in upper body strength and confidence to branch out of my comfort zone. My husband and I joined CrossFit Encompass in 2015 or 2016 (It’s been so long I can’t even remember ). I was EXTREMELY skeptical as to the bad wrap that CrossFit gyms get. I was nervous and completely out of my wheelhouse. I just knew I was walking into a disaster of cliches, judgment, embarrassment and failure. BOY WAS I WRONG!! First, off the owners and coaches are EXTRODINARY, patient and kind. Throughout my time at Encompass, I have been coached to the highest standards, held accountable and to never give up on myself. I am able to do movements and lift weights that I never thought possible for little me 51 and 100 lbs soaking wet. I got pregnant with my daughter in 2017. Coach Lindsay helped me every day with a pregnancy workout and nutritional eating to maintain a healthy lifestyle and workout routine. I was able to workout up until the day before I gave birth, which was incredible! Once cleared to go back to gym, I again worked with my Encompass Coaches and with the support of my husband and fellow cross fitters, I was able to lose 30 lbs post pregnancy! CrossFit Encompass is EXCITING, CHALLENGING, continues to provide something new and different to work on each day - that allows you to push yourself to be the best that you can. I’ve learned to never give up! I’ve made friends I call family! I’ve grown not only physically, but mentally! I believe in myself! #whatsyourwhywednesday #crossfit #encompassfamily #encompasstrained #morethanjustagym -Brittany Montgomery See more

I started CrossFit in January 2020. Jamie spoke so highly of it and told me how much you enjoy it and I wanted to go to a place where I would know someone. Also, CrossFit Encompass is close to my home, so I thought "win, win!" I enjoyed the work outs from the beginning because they challenged me and I learned that I was stronger than I thought I was, and I could accomplish more than I thought I could accomplish. I continued to attend because the coaches are supportive and enc...ouraging and the members are friendly and super helpful. I have a stressful job that can be upsetting at times, but completing CrossFit workouts on a regular basis, gives me the satisfaction of knowing that I am doing something good for myself. Encompass gives me confidence and helps me to power through the difficult days. The Encompass environment is very positive. I know that the moment I walk in the door, I'm in a safe place. ~Stephanie Macon #whatsyourwhy #wcw #encompassfamily #crossfit

I first walked through the doors at CrossFit Encompass in June of 2020. I had never worked out in any type of gym, never lifted weights, and wasn’t involved in sports growing up. If we were ranking my athletic ability it would be somewhere in the negative. I joined CrossFit because I gained 47 pounds between February - June 2020. I knew I couldn’t simply join a gym because I would have no idea what to do on my own. I had heard about CrossFit over the years so I did some ...googling, called CF Encompass and talked to Lindsay, and went to my first class the very next day (where Jamie introduced me to the Assault Bike and I began re-thinking all my life choices). As of today, I have lost 41 pounds thanks to CF Encompass and the amazing coaches who put up with me 6 days a week. But beyond weight loss, CrossFit has provided me so much more. Although I haven’t really shared openly about it, in August of 2020 my family suffered a tragedy that still has ongoing repercussions. CrossFit has been the blessing I never knew I needed in my life that has helped me through some very difficult days. Beginning each day at CrossFit allows me to re-center my mind and body before tackling the rest of my day. The simple act of being surrounded by strong, positive people who support and encourage each other on a daily basis does wonders for the soul. It may sound strange that a gym can provide such support - but for me, it truly does - and I couldn’t be more thankful. #whatsyourwhy #goals #crossfit #encompassfamily
