The April Cherokee Cowboy's match is being canceled due to the fact the monthly match personnel will be away shooting at the Alabama State match. Our matches will continue in May.

COWBOY MATCH FOR SATURDAY CANCELED: Howdy, Ah the perils of being a match director and depending on weather prognostificators.....here we go.... I've looked at the weather forecast for Gainesville for Sat. morning and it's showing 40 degrees and raining. Looks like it will be raining most of the night before the match as well. This makes for muddy footing on our range and that combined with the cold and shooting in the rain results in both unsafe and unsavory conditions. So in the interest of erring on the side of safety I am cancelling the match. For the December match (Dec 22) we will be shooting 4 stages and then having a meal and awards. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR MEMBERS UPDATED 12/15/17: PER JOE WEST: The club will be closed on Friday, 12/15/17, but ALL Ranges will reopen Saturday, 12/16/17.

Here is an update on the Utility construction from Range officer Mike Bains as of Wednesday 12/13. "Up here this morning and looked the ranges over. They are cutting the sporting Clays road right now, the GP road is cut, and using main road to layout pipe and move it into position. Because of safety issues with them working right below the trap and skeet fields for today and tomorrow all ranges are closed."

Today's IDPA Match (12/4) has been canceled due to utility construction!

Just a reminder that ALL Ranges will be closed for a Club-wide work day on Saturday 9/30!

Tuesday Pat Savage is going to change out the control boxes for each of the Skeet fields. We need to turn of the power so we can make the changes. We will start with Skeet #1 first. Should take about hour each field. These boxes will be better weather proof.

The IDPA Match is cancelled due to inclement weather.

A simple thing like our match director having a heart attack won't stop the folks at Cherokee from having a match on May 27. While we wish Krazy Kajun a speedy recovery, Badlands Bob has agreed to reprise his role as "Match Director" and keep the fires burning. Registration windows open at 8, safety briefing at 9 sharp. We will shoot six stages straight through, put away steel, do awards and then go to lunch at the local Mexican place (if you are so inclined). This month's match is based on the trials and tribulations of a Cowboy named Special Ed with stories written by Rolan Kraps and stages by Badlands Bob.

Next Saturday is our Cowboy Action Shooting match. Registration at 8, Safety briefing at 9, and we'll shoot until about 1:00 or 2:00 PM. Free to come watch. Just bring Eye and Ear protection, and remember, children under 8 years old are not permitted on the gun club property.

Don't forget: The Sporting Clays course will be closed on Friday 5/26/17 for road and course repairs

Cherokee Sporting Clays Sporting Clays at Cherokee Gun Club has a shoot open to the public every second Saturday of the month. The price for the shoot is $30 and no lunch is provided. Sign in between 8:00 am and 9:00 am with safety meeting starting 9:10 and move to the course and start shooting at 9:30. 18 and under youths shoot for free and the more the merrier. This is not an all day event and if you are a non-member and plan to shoot afterwards, you will need to have a member to sponsor you. Please arrive with more than 100 shells because of possible bad targets and we do not sell shells at the club. Shells are limited to one ounce and 1/8 with shot being no larger than 7.5. Come join us and have some fun.

The April 8th Sporting Clays match will benefit The Ruffed Grouse Society. The annual fun shoot price is $40 for non-members of the Gun Club. $30 for members, with prizes for top 3. Lunch will be provided.

NOTE: The first Tactical Rifle Match of 2017 will be a "rifle only" match. No handgun or shotguns will be used or needed. 120 rounds of rifle ammo and three magazines will be all that is required for the day. A couple of pouches for the magazines will be helpful and a sling can be used on any stage. Heavy rain is forecast so dress accordingly. Distances will be from 7 yards to 100 yards. Some precision headshots will be required. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

The Cherokee Gun Club mourns the passage of our friend, member, and former board of director, Hugh Howard (a.k.a. Hondo Howard). Obituary for Hugh Howard Hugh Anderson Howard age 68 of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016.... The Memorial Service to Honor and Celebrate the Life of Hugh Anderson Howard will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 1:00 PM, Mountain Park Baptist Church, Stone Mountain, GA. NOTICE Tactical Rifle Match for MARCH Canceled! Due to the match falling on Easter Sunday, the shoot coordinators decided to spend time with their families instead.

Sunday's Tactical Rifle Match Canceled! Hi everyone, We are off to a rocky bad start this year. I blame Jim for taking that great big engineering job in Atlanta. He was a semi-retired gentleman of leisure but keeps saying something about money for new guns. Jim is out if town this weekend. I thought I had worked it out so we would be able to have a match, but found out today that I will also have a work conflict. We will try again in March. The website will have a not...ice posted also. If you know someone who is not getting the e-mails please let them know about the cancellation. My apologies for the delays and cancellations. NOTICE Tactical Rifle Match for 1/24/16 Canceled! This is not the way we want to start a new season, but with the weather that is heading our way may make conditions dangerous for Sunday's Tactical Rifle Match. Rain, sleet and snow is forecast with temps in the low 20's at night. We are cancelling the match for this Sunday. I don't have everyone's email addresses, so if you don't see an address of someone that usually participates, please try to contact them. Again, not a good start but maybe we can make it up later in the year. Be safe.

The Cherokee Gun club mourns the passing of long time member James (Jim) Gossett. Better known to many of his friends by his SASS Alias, Gentleman James. He truly is a gentleman and we shall miss him.

This Sunday we'll be holding the club trap championships. Start time is 12:30. We all need to pitch in to help run this one since it's club members only. Trophies will be awarded at the Cherokee Banquet in January. The program will consist of 100 singles, 50 handicap and 25 pair of doubles. Price will be the same as club prices are for practice. ($3 per 25 targets) So 100 singles will cost you $12. You can shoot the whole program or pick and choose to shoot whatever you like.... NOTICE: The Cherokee Challenge Tactical Rifle Match that was scheduled for August 30 with Foxhole has been Postponed. No other information is available at this time.

Our monthly Cowboy Action Shooting match will be Saturday, June 22nd. Registration at 8:00, Safety briefing at 9:00. 6 stages. Visitors welcome, just bring eye and ear protection. Sunglasses are OK. Kids are welcome but must be over 8 years old per gun club rules.

Lots going on at the Gun Club this weekend. Saturday, there will be an Extreme Rimfire match on the 200 yard range (.22's at up to 200 Meters at little bitty targets). Also the .22 Steel Challenge in the Pistol bays, along with the Youth program. Sunday will be the Handgun Competition. The new Website is well underway. Now all I have to do is teach the shoot coordinators how to update their own areas. Meanwhile, note that the "LOGIN" feature is for Cherokee Gun Club Members ONLY, and requires a user name and email address that can be validated against the club's records.

The new Cherokee Gun Club web page should be loaded in the next few days. CGC Members will be able to log in to get to archives of newsletters and a "Members only" forum. Keep checking the website and when you do, refresh your browser. If you don't know how to "refresh your browser", ask your grandkids.

The IDPA match at Cherokee Gun Club for Sunday May 5th is being cancelled. If you know of someone who normally attends but is not on this email list - please forward this to them. Heavy rain Saturday and into Sunday will put lots of water onto the bays and the conditions will range from very soggy at best to very muddy on some. As of now, the forecast for tomorrow setup is 100% chance of rain. It improves (?) to a mere 90% during the afternoon. Wind conditions also play... into the decision. I apologize for the schedule interruption, but it seems like the prudent course of action. I waited untill this morning to check weather to wait as late a practicable before making the decision. As of now, we will plan on our next match being Sunday June 2d. Howard Beers
