Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday This time next Tuesday February 16th,we'll all be full of Shrove Tuesday pancakes, bacon, and sausage as we celebrate fats before fasting. Because of COVID, our pancake super will be drive-by from 5:30-6:30, February 16. Meals in hinged containers will be brought to your car at the Church Street entrance. There's no charge and there will be no basket for love offerings. The Vestry just wants everyone to celebrate making it this far togethe...r during the pandemic and to look ahead to the time we can all gather again in person. So the cooks will know how many pancakes and meats to cook, we need a head count. Please reply to this email by Friday giving the number of people you want to pick up for next Tuesday. In addition to pancakes, you may also pick up small sealed containers of ashes that have been blessed in advance for the next evening's Ash Wednesday service. Ashes will also be available tomorrow at the Church Street entrance beginning at 4:30 when Ken arrives for Compline. If you are unable to pick up ashes tomorrow or on Shrove Tuesday, they can be delivered to you. Please let Karen West know if you want ashes delivered. On Ash Wednesday, February 17, Fr. Patrick Hunt will celebrate during a live-streamed service at 6:30 on our YouTube channel . You will be emailed an Ash Wednesday bulletin next week or you may follow the service in the BCP, p. 264. When Fr. Hunt gets to the imposition of ashes ("Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return"), you may use the ashes to sprinkle on your head or to mark a sign of the cross on your own forehead or on others in your household. During Lent, we are all reminded of the message of pardon and absolution proclaimed in the Gospel, and of the need we continually have to to renew our repentance and faith. Let us prepare for a Holy Lent!

Bob and Faye Fussell have been usher co-chairs for more than 30 years. Alas, they're retiring this year. At 91, Bob has decided it's time to pass the torch. It was a bittersweet decision nonetheless. All these years, Bob and Faye developed an annual schedule, working around volunteers' schedules, and they wrote each usher a reminder letter the month before he was to serve. They tried to involve as many new parishioners as were willing to serve. Bob always wanted the ushe...rs to do their very best in their service to God. Bob also did a head count each Sunday. He wrote this number and put it on top of the bread box so the priest would know how many might receive the elements. This information was then transferred to the service book so there'd be a total to determine the average Sunday attendance for the annual Parochial Report. You can see there's more to being an usher than passing the alms basins! The Fussells' service cannot be overestimated. We appreciate their dedication to their calling and hope they enjoy sitting in the pew without having to cover unexpected events. Thanks, Bob and Faye, for everything you've done for Christ Church. Much love and good wishes from all your church family.
