Today at Bridge House - a beautiful program for stabilizing, diagnosing and treating adults with mental illness. It is housed in the former mega-home of the founder of Franklin Planners. Our lunch, an autumnal salad, was spectacular! Later we visited the interesting, newish, Live Strong for adolescent and young adult guys. Pictured are two of their leaders at one of their residences.

Last week I attended the Southeastern Regional Conference Of National Association Of Therapeutic Schools and Programs. So nice to be able to see program folks from the Southeastern therapeutic world and to check on my kids who they’re serving. https://www.facebook.com/1155428641/posts/10216921553128493/

I am currently in Utah attending the Utah Symposium. Yesterday was an opportunity to meet with 15 different programs to update my knowledge of each one. For the rest of the week I will have the opportunity to visit eight programs on their campuses. Both being with the therapists and program administrators yesterday and seeing these places in action for the rest of the week provide ongoing opportunities to know each one well, to confirm that I’m sending the most appropriate students to each one, and that they’re well served while they’re there.

This afternoon was spent at St. Mark's School, a beautiful setting for learning and living. Very interesting STEM offerings, as well as exchange programs with schools on every inhabited continent. Lagniappe: one dorm is named after a donor named "Thieriot" -- another Nova Scotian spelling of my name.

Today I revisited the lovely Brooks School, with its supportive atmosphere, interesting offerings, warm student body -- and my favorite of donors/school heads portraits.

Brad Reedy, founder of Second Nature and Evoke Wilderness Therapy programs, has written a lovely piece about the collaboration between programs and educational consultants. https://evoketherapy.com//in-partnership-with-educational/

Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it is not there. Just because someone looks okay, doesn't mean they are. Know the facts, fight the stigma. #equaltrea...tmentformentalhealth *edit* I should clarify that these images are of neural reactions under specific conditions, not the brain at rest. There are some structural differences seen in certain psychiatric conditions, but these images were supposed to highlight that the way that a healthy brain reacts in specific circumstances is not always how the brain reacts when the individual is suffering from a mental illness. I hope this clears up some questions and comments I've had from people online :) Also, I wanted to say a huge thank you to the hundreds of people that have gotten in touch with me over the past few weeks asking questions about mental health, my story and their own issues. I can't believe this post has almost 300,000 shares! I wanted to make people understand that mental health isn't always what it appears. I hope that the discussion this post has brought helps people talk about mental health, whether they agree with this post or not. Thank you.
