At the December meeting of the Mount Vernon City Council, members voted on a sign ordinance that will become effective on January 1, 2021. The ordinance reads that signs will now have to be a certain size and height. Number of signs and spacing between them will also be regulated. Signs are not to be placed on the public right of way, including political and advertising signs. The city council also voted on the Sunday alcohol sales, which had originally been passed county wid...e in the November election with 192 voting yes and 64 voting no in the City of Mount Vernon. City Council voted to allow Sunday alcohol sales within the city, but they are to start at 12:30 p.m. beginning on January 3, 2021. Tonight at the City of Mount Vernon’s December City Council meeting, Mayor Joey Fountain, alongside Mrs. Christine Roller and Ms. Anne Roller, presented the John Roller Award. The recipient of this award shows outstanding leadership, integrity, and strength in our community.
