Coastal Georgia Experience 04.12.2020

2pm Irma Press Conference

Coastal Georgia Experience 15.11.2020

UPDATE: A tropical storm warning, as well as hurricane and storm surge watches, have been issued for all areas of Glynn County, including Jekyll Island. A nor’e...aster may impact the area as early as Sunday morning, bringing 40-60 mph winds, heavy rains, and coastal flooding. Additionally, we now face an increased threat of tornadoes as early as Sunday evening, due to being in an area Northeast of Irma’s center. Severe storm surge and widespread power outages can be expected. Hurricane Irma has not made landfall on the mainland U.S., and has the potential to be extremely unpredictable. Any shift eastward will have disastrous consequences for this area. Glynn County remains under a mandatory evacuation. It is not safe to return to Glynn County until reentry procedures are enacted. Glynn County's curfew is still in effect through Tuesday 12midnight to 6am. Jekyll Island curfew is still in effect, 10 p.m. 6 a.m., until further notice. The Georgia State Patrol has added additional troopers to the island, and DNR law enforcement will also be on patrol. Based on the most recent storm projections, plans to close the Downing Musgrove Causeway and shut off central services, including water and sewer, at 9 a.m. on Sunday remain intact. The causeway will be barricaded and no entry will be permitted until re-entry in activated. The FJ Torras Causeway will ONLY be closed if conditions become too dangerous for it to be safely traveled. Water and sewer will be shut down on St. Simons at 2pm Sunday. Georgia DOT will be closing the Sidney Lanier Bridge at noon on Sunday. As the storm progresses toward the Florida coast, we will continue to assess our plans. The next update will be issued Sunday morning after 10 a.m.

Be sure and stop at Welcome Center at Georgia I 95 exit 1 while heading north from Florida. Lots of good info, plenty space to walk the dog, and nice clean facilities. And be safe out there on the road.
