PSA: Hurricane Dorian Update #6 THIS IS NOT THE NEWEST UPDATE GLYNN COUNTY, Ga.- The Glynn County Board of Commissioners has placed the County under a State of ...Emergency. This declaration will give the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners decision making authority during the State of Emergency. At this time, no official evacuation has been announced for Glynn County. Those registered with the Department of Health for Medical Functional Needs will start evacuations at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, September 2, 2019. If conditions remain the same, the County anticipates that there will be an evacuation of the barrier islands to include St. Simons island, Jekyll Island, Sea Island, and Little St. Simons Island and the low lying areas of the mainland. Glynn County is not accepting evacuees and will not open a shelter during the storm. If evacuees need a shelter location, contact the Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767. If the predictions hold true, the F.J. Torras Causeway could become flooded and impassible. There are no planned closures of the F.J. Torras Causeway at this time. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) typically closes the Sidney Lanier Bridge as winds approach tropical force speeds. With tropical storm force winds, the potential for power outages becomes higher and water and sewer outages follow due to a lack of electricity. If you feel unsafe in the area and are able to leave, use your best judgement and follow your hurricane plan. For non-emergency calls, please use 912-554-3645 to free up 911 lines for emergency calls. If you are not already registered for the CodeRED system to receive emergency alerts you can sign up at this address: https://glynncounty.org/671/CodeRED. There are several closures at this time. The Glynn County School System has cancelled all classes from Tuesday, September 3, 2019 through Thursday, September 5, 2019. The College of Coastal Georgia has cancelled classes, closed the dorms, and will suspend all non-essential operations for Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Visit www.ccga.edu for updates. The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) has closed for staff until Thursday September 5, 2019 and will resume classes on Friday September 6, 2019. The Glynn County Juvenile Court has cancelled all hearings for the week of September 2, 2019 and plans to resume normal business on September 9, 2019. The Brunswick Municipal Court System will not have hearings on Wednesday September 4, 2019. We will continue to monitor conditions and updates will be available at www.glynncounty.org and on the Glynn County EMA Facebook daily. We advise the public to use the latest forecast models from the National Weather Service Jacksonville to stay informed between updates.

PSA: Hurricane Dorian Update #4 THIS IS NOT THE NEWEST UPDATE UPDATE: FLETC has closed for staff until Thursday September 5, 2019 and will resume classes on Fri...day September 6, 2019. GLYNN COUNTY, Ga.- The August 31, 2019, 6:00 p.m. projections do not show much change in the forecasted track of Hurricane Dorian. The storm has moved to the East and could skirt the Georgia coast. If this track continues, Glynn County will likely see tropical storm force winds on the immediate coastal area and greater impacts from storm surge and rain. This storm has been unpredictable and at this time the earliest possible effects from the storm could be experienced on Monday, September 2, 2019. A coastal flooding advisory still applies. There are currently seasonally high tides and flooding is an issue due to storm surge and rain. This track could potentially cause over 5 inches of rain through Thursday in an area that is already soaked with rain from the current Nor’easter. The storm is currently causing hazardous marine conditions and rip currents. For non-emergency calls, please use 912-554-3645 to free up 911 lines for emergency calls. The College of Coastal Georgia has cancelled classes and will suspend all non-essential operations for Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Visit www.ccga.edu for updates There are no other closures to announce at this time from the Glynn County School System, the City of Brunswick, Jekyll Island Authority, FLETC, Coastal Pines, or Glynn County. This includes the Sidney Lanier Bridge. The Georgia Department of Transportation could possibly close the Lanier bridge if sustained winds reach 45 mph. Coastal Georgia is currently under a state of emergency. This declaration extends to commerce and the uninterrupted supply of petroleum products, emergency or disaster related materials, supplies, goods and services. Glynn County has not declared a state of emergency. We will continue to monitor conditions and updates will be available at www.glynncounty.org and on the Glynn County EMA Facebook daily. We advise the public to use the latest forecast models from the National Weather Service Jacksonville to stay informed between updates.
