The majority of the hardwiring of the brain involves the visual pathway, so it is common to experience a visual problem after a brain injury. Though typically, early intervention is more beneficial, it’s never too late to seek rehabilitation after a brain injury. Dr. Cook has practiced Neuro-Optometry for over 40 years. For more information, visit CookVisionTherapy.com or call 770-419-0400.
90% of patients with traumatic brain injuries will suffer visual symptoms. Symptoms are not always noticeable but can impact everyday activities, especially if untreated. These symptoms can include: Double vision Poor eye tracking ability Difficulties with shifting gaze quickly from one point to another... Focusing Loss of binocular vision (eye alignment) Eye strain Fatigue Glare, or light sensitivity Inability to maintain visual contact Headaches Blurred near vision Doctors of optometry are trained and equipped to detect visual symptoms of concussion, which may be missed by other specialist on your concussion care team. Timely detection and treatment will minimize the impact these symptoms will have on your daily life, school, and work.
It's important for awareness of concussion risk and for full protocol to be in place even during practices across all sports, not just football. https://www.nytimes.com//concussions-college-football-prac
What do you see? Might need a second...or third look.
6th Visual Ability for learning: 6. EYE-HAND COORDINATION We can divide our ability to get our eyes to guide our hands into "little" coordination and "big" coordination. We need "little" coordination to copy sentences and to keep words equally spaced and on the line. We need "big" coordination to throw or catch a ball or to guide a steering wheel. The "big" type of eye-hand coordination is also very much linked with balance, general coordination, and 3D Vision.

#5 out of 7 Visual Abilities required for success in school...and life: 5. VISUAL PERCEPTION "Visual Perception" is the ability to see how things are alike and different, how the pieces fit together to make up the whole. At one extreme we have the artist who can look at a scene and "see" the relationships between the shapes and colors well enough to reproduce them with paint on canvas. On the other extreme, we have the child who cannot tell the difference between a "b" and a "d" or a "was" and a "saw". Visual perception problems can make it difficult to recognize words, complete puzzles, align columns in math orfor adultsread a roadmap.
