Retired Chief of Police and former Mayor Jim Wetherington stopped by to congratulate Chief Blackmon on his appointment to Chief of Police. Not only did Retired Chief Wetherington hire Chief Blackmon in April of 1986, he also appointed Chief Blackmon to the rank of Detective in 1991 and promoted him to the rank of Sergeant in 1993. Chief Blackmon stated the visit was quite a surprise and made his day.

An arrest has been made in the cold case murder of Mr. Albert Woolfolk. Mr. Woolfolk was tragically murdered 17 years ago. We are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of the Homicide Investigators and especially Detective Stuart Carter.

Due to temps at or below 28 degrees predicted for Saturday night, the SafeHouse and Verge Church will open as warming stations. SafeHouse will open Saturday at 7am and remain open until Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm. Verge Church will dispatch their van to pick up anyone on the streets that needs to get indoors.

The Columbus Police Homicide Division is investigating the murder of Joseph Dukes on January 20th, 2021.
