National Orthodontic Health Month Fun Fact Friday! Orthodontists and dentists have similar jobs, but different focuses. All orthodontists are dentists, but not all dentists are orthodontists. Orthodontists must complete dental school and then go on for specialty training afterward. A dentist is concerned with your overall oral health and an orthodontic specialist, like Dr. Cranford, is concerned with your bite how teeth meet and function, how they are aligned, how they are set in the jaws, and the positioning and sizes of the upper and lower jaws. In fact, orthodontics became the first dental specialty in 1900!
