If you want to get better at your sport or lift more weight in the weight room, you need to focus on training movement patterns rather than isolating and trying... to build individual muscles. This means training the squat, deadlift, press, lunge, hinging motions, pulling movements, etc. Dont spend your time doing an "arm day, back day or chest day" or trying to do endless crunches to shred your abs IF you truly want to become a better athlete. . Muscles will NATURALLY develop as you work these different patterns - making some athletes appear to have done some bodybuilding training.
