Merry Christmas! We hope all of you have a wonderful holiday. We are open today, but will be closed Christmas Day. We will reopen on Thursday, and be picking up Wednesday’s route then. Thursday route and Friday’s route will also be a day late due to this.

We at Curbie Sanitation want to wish each and everyone of you a Happy Thanksgiving! We will be closed on Thursday to spend time with our friends and family, but will resume working on Friday. For those whose normal pickup is on Thursday, we will be getting your trash and recycling on Friday. For those who’s pickup is on Friday, we will be there on Saturday. Our office will be opened normal hours on Friday, and opened for a short time in the morning on Saturday. Thanks, and have a great holiday!

Wow, what a week. I am so thankful that we were spared the full force of Hurricane Dorian, but it sure has taken its toll on the emotions. If the anxiousness of knowing the storm is coming and not being sure of where it would hit wasn’t enough, we were told Sunday night that there would be a mandatory evacuation at noon on Monday and the dump would be closing at that time. This along with many of my employees telling me that they intended to evacuate with their families lead ...us to make the decision to stop service starting Tuesday. I can’t express how frustrating it was for us not to be working on Tuesday when the weather was so beautiful. Even on Wednesday and Thursday the weather was hardly severe enough to stop normal activity but we were at the mercy of our resources or lack there of. It has been very frustrating for us to not be out taking care of our customers as my family has for nearly 60 years. Our office staff have taken hundreds of calls over the past few days, over 300 just today, and I must say that we have some great customers. The vast majority have been extremely understanding of the overwhelming predicament that we are in. With over 6500 customers unable to get picked up over the last three days, there is no way that we have the manpower or trucks to make up the lost time. We understand everyones frustration and we wish that the storms were something that we didn’t have to deal with, but we feel confident that everything will be back to normal next week and all of the extra trash will be picked up. We know that next week will have some long days with extra garbage and multiple trips trips to the dump but my men are ready and have a great attitude about what’s to come. We sincerely appreciate each and every one of you and look forward to continuing to serve you in the future. Clayton Thurlow Curbie Sanitation

Good morning everyone! We are very thankful to see that our area was not damaged very much by the storm last night, and that all travel bans have been lifted for us. We plan on going back to our regular schedule tomorrow. That means we will be picking up Friday’s route. We will continue on to our normal schedule next week. For those of you who missed a pickup Tuesday-Thursday, please set out any extra trash you have on your normal pickup day and we will get it then. We are sorry for the inconvenience this unexpected closer caused everyone, and hope we won’t have any more hurricanes this season!

As of right now, we are still planning on working our normal schedule on Thursday and Friday. If this changes we will let you know.

Hello Everyone! Just a quick reminder that we will be on our normal schedule for garbage and recycling this week, including July 4th. We hope all of our customers have a safe and fun Independence Day!

Good morning everyone. Due to the mandatory evacuation we will be closed starting Tuesday until further notice. Since the evacuation does not begin until noon today, we are working this morning. We hope to get as many customers on Monday’s route as we can picked up. As for the next few days, we will know more as the storm moves closer. Hoping everyone stays safe, and that this storm stays far out to sea. We will continue to update this page as we know more.

We received a call yesterday from our recycling provider that they are no longer able to take glass recyclables. We have known for some time now that the glass recycling market was not doing well, with many areas in the country discontinuing the pickup of glass. We want to thank Pratt Recycling for taking these items as long as they could. Unfortunately, it is no longer feasible for them to do so. We hope that some solution will become available soon but until then please dispose of all glass with your garbage. (If you have glass in your recycling can right now we will get it on your next scheduled pickup, but please do not place anymore in the recycling.) We will be looking for some way to recycle glass in our area and will keep you informed of any options that we may find. Thank you for your business and understanding.

Oh, and one more thing. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone for being so understanding during this time. Your kind responses over the last few days have really meant a lot to us. I know the delays are frustrating, but please know we appreciate all of you and are doing our best to serve you.

Our plan for Friday is to run on our normal holiday schedule and pick-up Thursday's routes. For customers that are normally on Tuesday and Wednesday routes we appoligize that we won't be able to get you this week. We just don't have the man power or trucks to double up on routes, and pushing everyone back would have us off schedule for the next two weeks, causing confusion for everyone. If you are on a Tuesday or Wednesday route and have extra trash next week place it by your... can and we will pick it up. For Thursday customers we are going to be late getting started, due to the roads possibly refreezing tonight and thawing not happening until later in the day. We plan on working as late as we can and still get to the transfer station before it closes, but there is still a good possibility that we will not complete all routes. If we miss you, we will have to get you next week, just like Tuesday and Wednesday customers. On Saturday, we will be picking up Friday's routes. See more

Good morning everyone. We have made the decision to remain closed all day today, both routes and office. Unfortunately many of the roads in our surrounding area are still unsafe to drive. We have also just learned that the transfer station that we take all of our trash to will be closed all day, which leaves us with no where to take anything that we could collect. Once again we are very sorry about the inconvenience this causes everyone, and we hope to be serving everyone again as soon as possible.

As of right now we are planning on being closed in the morning until about 11:00. The temperatures before that are still forecasted to be at/or below freezing. We are hoping to be able to open at least partially in the afternoon as it warms up. Which routes we are able to do is hard to say at this point, as much will be determined by how many of our employees are able to make it here (some of them commute from areas with more snow than we got) and what road and bridge conditions look like. My suggestion would be if you are on a route that is normally picked up on Tuesday or Wednesday you may want to just set your trash out so as to not miss us if we do make it to your neighborhood. We won't be able to service all areas, but we are going to do our best to service who we can. Stay safe, especially if any of you are going out any time soon!
