Kevin Chambers today at his Art Talk and Tour of his solo exhibition Allegoria at Marietta Cobb Museum of Art. Here he shares the story on how he received a commission for two life size sculptures that are in the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History. #proudtobeanamerican How awesome is this? Received this letter from our artist Barbara Nerenz-Kelley this morning. Congrats to a beautiful American citizen!! (Barbara is from Germany)... "Dear friends and family, A few of you knew that I had my initial interview on obtaining American citizenship yesterday, November 5th. There were some interesting aspects and turns in this interrogation which would be too much to mention here, but I am happy to tell you more in detail about how it went if you are interested. This interview turned out to end with a big and unexpected surprise: Because of the corona pandemic the usual ceremony for the Oath of Allegiance does not take place in these times, I was told, instead I would be sworn in the same day right after the interview. And so it went. Together with about ten other people I took the Oath of Allegiance (a modified one for me, but that is another story) and can call myself now an American citizen. Thank you all for your support to make it possible. You might wonder how you helped me in that? Well, from the beginning of my American adventure starting in 2004 until now, it was you over the years who helped me with your openness, your support, your welcoming attitude, your wisdom, strength, your warmth and love to overcome the doubts and insecurities that I off and on had experienced referring to this country -especially during the last four years, of course. The qualities mentioned above helped me believe in an America that IS great already and always had been despite of all the challenges and inconsistencies that were part of its history and that we are experiencing right now. Having all of you in mind I know that there is a lot to love and appreciate about this country. Coming back from Charlotte last night, Robert and I celebrated with the best champagne we could get (Robert insisted). And as this falls together with the election two days earlier and I could have voted. And now I will leave you with a picture of the new American citizen.
