Wearing a partial denture is uncomfortable and can damage your remaining teeth that are supporting it and therefore may cause additional teeth to be lost. By the time people are ready to get rid of their partial they have lost a significant about of bone. There are many techniques used to build up the bone. I have found success using a ridge splitting technique with BMP bone grafting for mild to moderate cases. Here is a case that took about 1 year to complete. This patient is extremely happy not to have to wear a removable partial denture.

This young man suffered a trauma as a young teen and he had to wear a retainer with teeth for years. He came to see me as an adult ready to replace his front teeth. Since missing his teeth for years and due to the trauma he was missing a significant amount of bone. With bone taken from his lower jaw we were able to generate new bone and then place his dental implants 6 months later. This process took about 1 year. He is extremely pleased with the results and his patience paid off! I consider this case a success. This patient did not want perfectly white teeth. He also did not want anything done to his other teeth. So, in my office, we listen and he is happy.

This patient suffered a fall that made her two front teeth become loose. Given the fact that she had teeth with enamel that was exposed, I was able to use her existing teeth to create temporaries for her without having to wait on a flipper the be fabricated. Her bone and gingiva were also maintained by the quicker integration process. Her final crowns were done by another dentist and the patients is happy with them. However, there are better labs out there that can make crowns like these more natural looking and esthetically pleasing.
