Jackson Eye is 5 today! We made it! Thank you to Shyesha for keeping this business running, my family and friends for cheering me on, and every patient or guest that has ever supported us. Just as excited to walk through these doors today as I was 5 years ago when I saw my first patient here.

I chose to celebrate Juneteenth by coming to the business I built from nothing and continuing to serve my people. I’m sure my ancestors would be proud To be honest, this is the first year I’m celebrating Juneteenth, and I’m from Texas where it’s technically a state holiday. It angered me to think that it took an extra 2.5 years after the emancipation proclamation for the slaves in Texas to realize they were free. I am likely the direct descendant of those slaves. I feel a lot of things that are hard to put into words when I say that, so instead I’ll just say Happy Juneteenth.
