those who know me, know I am not a flower person, but I love my pollinators, especially my bumblebees. plus marigold have a number of positive side effects on other insects and nematodes, friend and foe they seem to be the-last-flower-standing in my garden too bad pictures do not do their glow at last light any justice... at least they can show you my tired bumblebees cuddling up for the night See more

neighbors, same as last year: if you do not have your own compost pile but want to save your Halloween decoration or in a few weeks your Thanksgiving deco from the landfill, feel free to throw your pumpkins, corn stalks ... on my piles if you do not want to buy yard wast bags for your leaves, ... you are welcomed to dump them on my compost piles, too See more

interesting coincidence: Last year I made some fermented green hot sauce and my husband did not like it, it was too shallow, hot but bland, the poor sauce spent all year in a corner of my fridge. Just now it was reevaluated as quite good. and I have a lot of hot peppers, mostly Serrano plus some Cayenne, Saed and Habanero. the conclusion... I just started a half gallon Serrano hot sauce and a half gallon Cayenne & Saed if you want to make your own, fermented hot sauce does take much more patience than kitchen skills https://www.feastingathome.com/fermented-hot-sauce-simple-/ if you search the web you will find a plethora of recipes if you did not grow your own, my hot peppers are still producing, Serrano only or mixed as they come $12/lb while supplies last

HeeHaw! my roselle finally set on flower buds not long before I can harvest calyces for tea https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibiscus_tea mama keeps telling the story of me, as preteen, running 3 blocks to grandma to tell her "just imagine, they wanted me to drink RED TEA for breakfast RED TEA!... well now I love tangy red tea, iced or hot check out the 2nd picture, that is a green variety of roselle, man am I curious about greenish 'red tea' all of my culinary friends, this also means the end of gongura leaves is near, if you want to indulge some more or if you want to stock up on blanched, frozen gongura, now is the time to do so before too long my plants will die, the next generation will not produce much before the summer gets hot next year https://www.vahrehvah.com/searchrecipe?recipe_name=gongura

sorry I was so quiet this whole week, but somehow my days don't seem to have 24 hours we planted more guavas and figs good lord, the next step up from my 'soil' would be steel enforced concrete so it took a little longer than planned, to dig 6 decent size holes and haul compost and garden soil, trying to make my new babies happy
