According to the Stalking Resource Center, over 7.5 million people are stalked each year in the United States. Stalking is often committed by someone the victim knows, and stalking by an intimate partner is the most common and most dangerous type of stalking. Every January is National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM), a month dedicated to raising the understanding of stalking. This January, we invite our Dunwoody community to learn more about stalking, name it when it happens,... and stop it from occurring. The observance of NSAM is a vital time for us to join efforts to raise awareness and to educate about stalking and how it relates to other forms of violence. As we elevate the issue of stalking throughout the month, let’s also take this opportunity to work towards solutions to prevent stalking and related forms of violence throughout the year and beyond. To lean more about National Stalking Awareness Month or for victim resources, please visit www.stalkingawareness.org. (AS)
RUNAWAY JUVENILE: On 1/10/2021 the 14-year-old Hispanic juvenile female ran away from home before dawn leaving only a note. The note stated she would go farther that she ever had before and that she did not know where that would be. The only items noticed missing from the home were her black hooded sweatshirt, white Puma shoes, and a dark gray backpack. Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identity of suspects involved is asked to contact Dunwoody Police Department Case Detective: M. Vermillion at 678-382-6921 [email protected] or submit an ANONYMOUS TIP at https://bit.ly/DunwoodyPD_Submit_a_Tip

Great Dunwoody story!
**Update** GA Power is on scene and will need to cut power to make the repair. The repair crew is enroute with an ETA of about 45 mins. Once the crew is on scene police have been advised it will take about 4-5 hour to complete the repair and the roadway will remain closed. Please check back for updates. Officers are currently working an accident involving this FedEx truck and another vehicle. Womack Rd is closed at Vermack Rd temporarily while we work to clear the scene. Only minor injuries reported. We are not aware of any power outages at this time.
Honoring those who have served, those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, and those who have yet to return home. Happy #VeteransDay. #VeteransDay2020

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Sergeant Daniel Mobley and the entire DeKalb County Police Department. Sgt. Mobley was struck and killed this morning while on the scene of a traffic accident. Rest in peace brother and thank you for your service.
Officer Anwar Sillah was recently featured on the What's Up Dunwoody podcast discussing various topics about our department and the Dunwoody community.
Just a reminder for all of our drivers out there Traffic signals provide clear indication to drivers when it is safe to stop, go or slow down. As we have seen over the last two days, traffic signals may become inoperable, or the device may flash certain colors. If you approach an intersection and see the traffic signal is not functioning normally, follow these rules: Flashing Red: If the traffic signal is flashing red, treat it as a stop sign and come to a complete stop at th...e intersection. Look carefully in all directions before proceeding. Other directions may have a different type of signal indication. Flashing Yellow: If the traffic signal is flashing yellow, proceed cautiously through the intersection. You should also slow down and observe cross streets to determine if it is safe to proceed. Inoperable (No Lights): If the traffic signal is completely inoperable, treat it as a 4-Way STOP. Remember that other drivers may not know how to react when a traffic signal is inoperable. Always stay alert and proceed cautiously through an intersection. No matter the condition of a traffic signal, you should always observe cross streets and other drivers to make sure you can proceed safely. Safe driving!
As we move into the final days of this year’s Presidential election, please remember to be respectful of others and refrain from taking any action that may get you into legal trouble. All has gone well at the one polling place in Dunwoody for early voting. We are confident this trend will continue as all of our polling places open next Tuesday. Unfortunately, we have had several incidents where people have decided to damage, tamper with, or steal political signs from someone...’s yard. This is not a good idea for several reasons: 1. Damaging, tampering with, or stealing political signs is illegal and you could get arrested for it. 2. Damaging, tampering with, or stealing political signs could lead to a confrontation with a homeowner or other interested party with unintended consequences. (someone might get hurt) 3. Everyone should be allowed to support the candidate of their own choosing. In 1996, three teenage girls died in Cobb County in a crash and several were injured while being chased by the homeowner of the house they were toilet papering. In October of this year, a firefighter was chasing a group of teenagers after the teenager’s toilet papered his house and he crashed and died. We do not want to see a tragic outcome like one of the ones mentioned above happen here in Dunwoody. We realize that toilet papering a house is not the same as stealing political signs, but the bad outcome could happen in either case. Parents, please talk with your children and remind them to not take part in this type of activity or hang out with those who intend to do so. Adults, please remember that actions have consequences. Everyone has an opinion. Make your opinion count by voting rather than engaging in illegal activity. This post is not intended to be political. Rather, it is intended to provide some friendly advice that will help keep everyone safe. Please refrain from making political statements on this post. Your support and cooperation are very much appreciated.
On October 27, 2020, Dunwoody officers responded to a vehicle accident involving two tractor-trailers on I-285WB at Ashford Dunwoody Rd. The investigation revealed that the driver of one of the tractor-trailers failed to maintain his lane of travel and collided with second tractor-trailer. The collision caused both trucks to strike the median wall and both tractor-trailers caught fire. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The driver of the tractor-trailer that caused the cr...ash was arrested and charged with DUI. This crash caused extreme traffic delays for several hours. Our Crime Response Team routinely partners with Georgia Department of Public Safety - Motor Carrier Compliance Division to conduct commercial vehicle traffic enforcement. We have issued multiple citations, made traffic arrests and placed several commercial motor vehicles OUT OF SERVICE for various violations. Our goal is to help make Georgia roads safer for all motorists. As we continue to share the road with commercial vehicles, it’s important to remember that sharing the road with a truck is different from sharing it with another car. When you’re sharing the road with large trucks, you should always stay vigilant and visible. This video was shared with us by a motorist who captured the crash on his dash camera.
We had a blast! We hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween!
