Gotta give a plug for Yancey Caterpillar. When your crushing plant is down with a bad radiator, and you're under the gun to process material on I-75 for the largest highway project in Atlanta right now, it's great to see everyone go into overdrive. New CAT radiator delivered from Peoria, Illinois in less than 12 hours. Did it cost me? Hell yes, but they made it happen. Team CAT!!

You know, thinking about our ladies in our office. I think their jobs is probably one of the most over looked, taken for granted positions in the company. Not s...aying we take them for granted just we get so caught up in our in the field stuff that we don't think without them doing what we do, we couldn't do our jobs well. Thanks girls!!! You really do make our jobs easier and better!! Debra Gambrell Hunt Windy Spears See more
Making room for more product on our I75 project.
Talk about your company being on the world's stage.....No telling how many cars and trucks go by here daily
Finally, after a month of delays because of weather and material issues, we are back to crushing on the northern corridor project in Atlanta.
For the ones that don't know, when you are producing a product to be used on a state job, there are numerous test the finished product has to go through. The state Dept of Transportation runs test that checks every particle size. There has to be certain percentages of each size of the material in GAB (Graded Aggregate Base) from 2 inches all the way down to the minus 200's (dust) If just one of those sizes fail, all of the material fails. They also check whats called a LA abr...asion. This checks the hardness of the material. They check for organics (contaminates like wood, clay or anything that will break down over time) Also a theoretical test. This is basically a type of compaction test. Say you spread out 1 ton of material 6 inches thick. When you compact it to the right hardness, how far does that 1 ton of material go? This test tells us that. There are so many times that the material you are making can fail if not careful. If its not dug out of certain places in the raw material pile and blended, it will fail. If the crushers and screen sizes are not set right, it will fail. If the product isn't handled correctly and stockpiled right, it will fail. Also how the material is loaded on the trucks determines if it passes or fails as well. This barely scratches the surface on what goes into making a State approved product. At the top of this process, is a group of guys that care about the jobs they do and always looks for ways to be better. Without them....it will fail. See more
Been up and running on this northern corridor project for a few weeks. I75@Canton rd.
All the crushers and the screen are set up. Now to place all the conveyors and get this stuff wired up. Hope to be crushing something by Friday. Not real good weather to work in either. Had a little talk with everyone about the dangers of working in these conditions and then went at it, in the rain, all day.
