Eagle's Landing Christian Academy

Our teachers are some of the best educators in the state! This month we're highlighting the work of high school English teacher, Dr. David Balty. Read this sweet recollection of Dr. Balty's life and time here at ELCA! I was born in Nebraska, the youngest of three children. Some of my earliest memories are of my mother reading to us in the evenings and of my father reading the Bible with us every morning. We were a happy family. Because of being placed in a family that loves ...God, I soon realized my own lost condition. At age nine, I gave my heart to Christ as my parents and grandparents knelt beside me in our living room. Our Christian school closed in Nebraska, so my parents moved our family 800 miles, to Oklahoma, so we could continue our Christian education. That relocation shaped my life forever. Church became the primary activity of my life outside of school; in fact, church and school were inseparable. My oldest friends emerged from those relationships begun at church and school during my formative years. I am the product of Christian education, from first grade through my bachelor’s degree. I met my wife, Amy, in a Christian college in Florida, and we married in 1992. Each of my teaching posts has been in a Christian academy where I have been privileged to work near my boys and with wonderful students and beloved colleagues. One of my great joys is seeing my former students place their own children in Christian education. I have been blessed to work at ELCA since 2007. For the first few years after I arrived, Mr. Chambers ended his morning announcements with Have a good day at E-L-C-A. His benediction over ELCA is a summary of my life as a teacher. I have had very few bad days in education, and I am energized about teaching students to love God and cultivate a mind that honors God.
