An update on our orphan’s farming project in Myanmar For those who gave to help Pastor Vel Siama in Myanmar, I want to give an update. And for the rest of you, I think you’ll enjoy it as well. We have wanted to encourage and enable our groups worldwide to work towards self-sufficiency or get part of the way there; after all, I enjoy the blessings of helping.... Because of his background and vision, we decided to start with Vel. He had been given land for a farm but did not have funds to work it properly. You gave to help him purchase some goats as breeding stock, and he also planted some corn. The land was marshy and used as a rice patty for years. So there was a need to fill ditches and level the ground. Before long, Vel asked for help to build a fish pond, a chicken coop, and other needed things like a tiller and irrigation. I have attached some photos taken in March that will show you his progress. He started building a chicken coop by laying a foundation, filling it with sand, and now putting a roof over it to protect the chickens from birds of prey. (Just a little Klingon humor to go along with our final frontiers name. If you’re older than me, well, sorry, I don’t have any Buck Rogers references.) While that was going on, they were busy cutting grass to enlarge the crop field. This was done by hand, as you can see. And then it was time to fill the ditches with soil. With that completed, they laid PVC pipes for irrigation and then planted more corn seed. The waste from the chickens can be used as fish food, and the waste of the fish can be used for chicken feed, so it was only logical to dig a fish pond. After all, this is food that can be given to our orphans, church members, and pastor’s families, and he can sell the surplus. It also makes an excellent place for the kids to play and cool off on the hot days of SE Asia, which is 363 days a year. You will notice that our workers are, for the most part, our orphans who are old help to help out. Each day while working, Vel has a Bible lesson for them. The little girl squatting at right is Sui, whom Nolin and I sponsor. She’s our beautiful Burmese daughter. Recently we asked for, and God provided the funds for Vel to purchase a second, larger farm that we will use primarily to raise more goats for meat and milk. Unfortunately, due to the war going on right now, our plans are on hold. But your funds are already there, in the bank, waiting for him to withdraw them. (They are safe in the bank, but in his home, which the government troops can search, they are not.) I’ll try to keep you updated on this marvelous project and let you know how well it is all going. In the meantime, pray for all the people of Burma, particularly our brothers and sisters. You won’t hear much about it on the news here, but hundreds of citizens have been killed due to the military coup.

A wonderful update about the Christmas project over in India that you gave to and prayed for! We have learned that your giving for the Christmas need in Tamil Nadu, India, was a great blessing. We had set a goal to raise $4500: To be used in giving food and clothes to those in need. Even adults. To give blankets to needy children.... To provide food for his Bible College students who had run out of food. And you met and exceeded that goal. Thomas informed us that they gave food to 175 children, 79 young people (teens and young adults), and 48 older people. They also gave away 187 blankets. The students helped Pastor Thomas in all his effort. After preparing and packaging food for others, they also had a Christmas feast for themselves. His students are both local and as far away as Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. Thus, your help for them will carry the gospel into all those regions and beyond. Since that time, we have learned of other immediate needs, like purchasing a generator for their campus, building dorm space for the female students, buying beds, linens, desks, etc. The need came to over $30,000, and guess what --- you gave it also. His monthly budget for the school is $6000. That covers food, utilities, and all salaries. He has 80 full-time students and 49 pastors that come for one week each month. He has to provide three meals a day for all these people! (So, if in the future you have some change that’s burning a hole in your pocket, this would be an excellent place to invest it.) In the meantime, thank you for giving and for caring.

Here's an update for the Pakistan Youth Camp project that was sent out to our email alert subscribers in late February. The youth camp in Pakistan was a great success. The team had special training and then went out to prepare the park grounds. Hundreds of young people came; in fact, there were 450 there. Many were from the local house churches, but they were all encouraged to bring unsaved friends. There was food, games, and a chapel service. Others came by bus from the de...sert churches and various villages where Shaukat and his team have been evangelizing the starting new churches. Notice the boys in the picture. The term youth in developing countries does not mean what it does in America. Youth for them will often go up to age 30, even if they are married and have children. So, when he says 450 young people attended, realize that many are young ladies and men who are the next generation of leaders. He is doing a fantastic job! The funds we raised were not enough to cover all his expenses, but he felt they could raise the rest. I told Shaukat to give us more notice next time, and we will do better. But I want to thank all of you who felt led to give and did so. You have fruit abounding to your account as many were saved. Here are a few photos for you to enjoy.
