Pizza Hut Bankruptcy clarification: Pizza Hut has not filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy, NPC International (the nation’s largest Pizza Hut franchisee) has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. Pizza Hut is wholly owned by YUM brands, which isn’t the same as NPC international - two different persons. That’s not to diminish the significance of this news: NPC is franchisee of 1200 Pizza Hut locations in the US ( nearly 20% of all Pizza Huts) but will close/sell 300 of those stores. YUM Brands ( owner of Pizza Hut ) will definitely take a hit to it’s 2020 revenue but it’s far from insolvent..

One of my largest holdings had a very large gain last week after the company announced a stock split after exceeding market revenue/EPS expectations even through the pandemic. This would be the 5th time the Company has split it’s stock since 1987. FUN FACT: A single share of stock in this company would be priced @ $23,800 today if the company never split it’s stock. Stock splits don’t directly impact the market cap (value) of a company, only the # of outstanding shares thus making stock purchases more affordable/attractive for retail (smaller)investors.
