Happy National Dog Day! Celebrate with your special four-legged family members. Don't have a dog? Or don't have enough dogs? The shelter has plenty of puppers who would love to celebrate as part of your family. Make an appointment to go meet them, and maybe bring one home.

Today's an Empty Pet Bowl distribution day. Please help us spread the word. The Carroll County Humane Society has expanded our Empty Pet Bowl pet food pantry, i...n response to the Covid-19 crisis. We are still distributing food, although on a different schedule. You do not have to be an existing program client. We welcome anyone from Carroll County who has been hit financially by the shut-down and is in need of assistance to feed their pets. At least until the end of the stay-at-home period, dog and cat food is being handed out from noon until 2 on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday each week at our headquartes (102 Tuggle Street, on the corner of Tuggle and Maple in Carrollton). We are in compliance with the city's stay-at-home order and are following CDC guidelines regarding social distancing, etc., including frequent cleaning of surfaces such as door handles. There is no direct contact between clients (who remain outside) and volunteers (who work inside the building), for the safety of all concerned. See more

Hey, you, can I have a moment of your time? My name is Oscar and I am just one year old. I am currently at the Carroll County Animal Shelter. Yes, we animals have heard about the shelter-at-home stuff. And we know the shelter is closed to the public until further notice. We can deal with that. We are being taken care of. We are safe and sound. BUT we still want to get out of here and go into homes of our own. And we can, with your help. You can still call the shelter ...and make an appointment to come meet a particular animal you see on the internet and adopt it. Please come adopt me, or one of my friends. I'll sit in your lap and make you feel better about being stuck at home. We can hunker down together. You can see the animals available at the local humane society's website--- carrollcountyhumane.org--- and then call the shelter for an appointment. Be patient--- the phone is busy a lot. And that's a good thing, from my perspective, because those calls could be from people who need a sweet orange kitty in their lives. The number is 770-214-3590.

Hey, we're still in here. We are safe and sound at the shelter, but things are very quiet. The shelter is closed to the public EXCEPT you can make an appointment to come in and meet a pet you are interested in adopting So you can come meet us! I'm Cleo, a three year old terrier mix. I weigh about 55 pounds. I am smart, walk well on a leash, and know the "sit" command. My buddy here is named July. He's a boy kitty, about six months old. We don't want to be stuck in here for a long time. Wouldn't you like to have a new buddy to hang out with while you are stuck at home? Oh, and another good part of the deal-- the adoption fee for now is "name your own price." You decide what you want to pay. And believe me, the love I can give you in return is priceless. To make an appointment to come see us, call 770-214-3590.

UPDATE: Jasleen has been adopted. But dear Jovanny is still waiting. To make an appointment to meet him, call 770-214-3590. (The only public access to the shelter right now is by appointment for potential adopters.) Also, the adoption fee is "Name Your Own Price". Yes, we are siblings. We are five-month-old kitties currently living at the Carroll County Animal Shelter. We would rather live with you I'm Jovanny-- I"m a boy. Can you guess which one I am? Nope, foole...d you, I bet. I'm NOT the one with the little black goatee. That's my sissy, Jasleen. I'm the orange and white one. I think it would be so cool if we got adopted together. But if we don't, it will be okay as long as we both get great homes. And as long as one of us doesn't get stuck here all alone. So come meet us and see if you wouldn't like to take us--- or at least me--- home with you/ We have been spayed (Jasleen) or neutered (me, Jovanny) and microchipped. We've had our rabies and fvrcp vaccinations. We are available for adoption at the Carroll County shelter, where the adoption fee is $50.

UPDATE: JING HAS BEEN ADOPTED! This pretty boy is Jing, and he has been busy on a publicity tour this week like a movie star on an Oscar campaign. He's letting everyone in town know he's a real dreamboat and, better still, he's available! Thursday Jing did an adoption event at Pet Supplies Plus. Friday morning he appeared on Kiss 102.7's morning radio show as Pet of the Week. So now he's taking his campaign to find a home to Facebook. ... Who can resist that face? Jing, who is an 8 month old male short haired kitty, is a real charmer. When you enter the cat room at the shelter, he's the one you'll see stretching his paw through the wires of his cage, beckoning you to come play with him. He loves to play--- just dangle a toy in front of him and watch him leap into action. Jing is ready for a home of his own. He's been sharing a cage with another kitty, but his pal got adopted, so now he's on his own again. Why not come visit him and take him into your home? Life with a star like Jing is sure to be entertaining! Jing has been neutered, microchpped, and has had his rabies and FVRCP vaccinations. He tested negative for feline leukemia//aids. The adoption fee at the Carroll County Animal Shelter is $50.

This wonderful family has adopted 6 (!) fur-babies from the Carroll County Animal Shelter. Happy Valentine's Day to all of them!

Our Pet of the Week, Cooper, went to Kiss 102.7 this morning to let everyone know that he's ready to be your valentine. This very kissable little bundle of love is a five year old male chihuahua. He loves to snuggle in your lap and gets along well with children and other animals. He's housetrained, although he'll need some patience and a refresher course as he settles into a new home. He's in need of some dental work. Otherwise, he's happy and healthy and ready for love. Cooper has been neutered, microchipped, and is up to date on his rabies, parvo/distemper, and bordatella (kennel cough) vaccines. His adoption fee is $50.
