Rates of COVID-19 are going down. The current 7-day average of new daily cases is 53,934, a 16% decrease from the previous week. Don’t let your guard down. If ...you’re not fully vaccinated, keep practicing healthy habits to slow the spread. Wear a mask that fits snugly over your nose and mouth. Stay at least 6 feet from others. Get a vaccine as soon as you can. Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated spaces. Wash your hands with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available. "If you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you can start doing some things again, like gathering indoors with other fully vaccinated friends and family without wearing a mask. You can gather indoors with unvaccinated people from one other household (like relatives who all live together) without masks, unless any of them is at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. "Despite more Americans being vaccinated every day, COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are increasing in some parts of the country. Cases are increasing among young people who have not yet been vaccinated. Continued use of prevention measures like wearing a mask and staying at least 6 feet apart from others, even if you’re fully vaccinated, will help stop the spread of COVID-19. We know that large gatherings such as weddings are high risk for COVID-19 spread, but did you know these gatherings can pose a risk in the community to people who didn't attend as well? A wedding reception with 55 guests in Maine was linked to 177 COVID-19 cases including 7 deaths and outbreaks at a long-term care facility and a correctional facility. This report highlights the need for reducing the size of gatherings, always wearing masks, and maintaining social distancing. Learn more: https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6945a5.htm

Think carefully about your holiday plans this year to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Take multiple steps to layer your protection and help prevent the spread: Reduce the size of your gathering--consider immediate family only, household members only, or only inviting a guest if they would otherwise be alone during the holiday. Ask everyone that doesn't live in the home to wear a mask and keep their distance when not eating. Host the holidays outdoors if you ca...n. Otherwise, try to provide ventilation by opening a window or turning on a fan. Ask everyone to get tested before coming, but remember that a negative test doesn't mean you can safely remove masks. Ask everyone to limit their social contacts and outings as much as possible for 2 weeks before the holiday. Consider hosting a small, masked, socially distant gathering without food so you can see friends and family without the risks of being indoors, unmasked, or sharing food/utensils.
