FCS Families: We are steadfast in our commitment to offer face-to-face instruction, for those families who have chosen it. We stay equally committed to the safety of our students and staff. The plan for Fulton County Schools to receive students and offer face-to-face instruction, remains the course beginning Tuesday, Jan 19. In supporting this commitment, we are in constant consultation with public health officials and to date, we have received no recommendations to change ...that plan. District leadership continues monitoring the potential impact of community case numbers and managing our operations with a site-based strategy. The district recognizes the level of community spread is significant. However, as of our most recent report, the majority of our schools are reporting 2 or fewer cases. We will continue to move schools to remote learning on a case-by-case basis, as needed. Decisions are made on the basis of our ability to complete contact tracing, disinfect facilities and provide staffing at each school. Face-to-face instruction has already been delayed for one week to allow for our most vulnerable employees (those who met the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) criteria for 1A+) to receive the vaccination if they chose. We are dedicated and are strongly advocating for all employees to have this opportunity as soon as possible. The community is facing difficult times, and many have strong feelings about the best course of action for our schools. We understand and appreciate the different opinions. We urge our entire community to continue to follow the recommendation of public health officials; wear a mask, maintain social distancing, wash your hands frequently, and remain home if you are sick or exhibit symptoms.

We promised more info on free, voluntary COVID testing offered to FCS families/employees before returning for second semester, and here it is. CORE test sites are now confirmed for Banneker HS & North Springs HS, 10 am to 4 pm on Sat, Jan. 2. Each site can administer up to 500 tests, so families and employees are encouraged to undergo testing through any health provider a family physician, urgent care center, CORE test site, health department, pharmacy drive-up lane, etc. This link -- tinyurl.com/y8qvoloz -- is not an exhaustive list of all local providers who offer COVID-19 testing, but it provides information on free test sites coordinated specifically by the Fulton County Board of Health.

Fulton Families, Students, Staff and Community: Fulton County Schools (FCS) is monitoring data and have noted the current increase of COVID-19 cases in Fulton County. School leaders are working closely with the Fulton County Board of Health (FCBOH) and value their partnership and advice in the process of evaluating the situation in our community. Together we are watching the numbers rise and have concerns about community spread. Many have asked what steps FCS will follow f...or school operations for the near future under these circumstances. First, we ask all families and community partners continue to take this virus seriously. We need your cooperation to take the appropriate steps to protect yourselves and others, report to our parent and staff portals when you are testing, and stay home when sick and/or quarantined. We all need to follow public health guidelines, wear masks, wash hands and do not gather in large social groups. If our schools are to continue with a face-to-face instruction after the holidays and into the next calendar year, we all need to be vigilant and safe. Second, district and school leadership are discussing options should the community spread numbers continue to go up. FCS is closely monitoring cases at school levels, and compared to our total number of students and staff, only a limited number of individuals have been diagnosed with or had to quarantine because of COVID-19. The effectiveness of the Closure Matrix has helped the district to manage situations locally and therefore limit the disruption to learning across our 100+ schools. So far, we have had to temporary close only a handful of schools and change them to remote learning; however, we are prepared to go to districtwide Universal Remote Learning if necessary. FCS will continue to communicate with FCBOH to establish the appropriate data for this determination. Finally, Dr. Looney and district leadership will discuss these circumstances with the Board of Education today (Tuesday) and will continue to keep the community apprised should any further actions be necessary.

Following the FCS Closing Matrix, we have met the criteria of a Level 1 at Centennial High School and in consultation with Fulton County Board of Health, we are switching to remote learning for Monday, Nov 9 to allow for cleaning of the facilities and contact tracing. Individuals who will be required to quarantine for longer will be notified directly. Pending confirmation through the contract tracing process, we anticipate school resuming face-to-face instruction on Tuesday, Nov 10. If circumstances dictate additional steps, we will notify the school community immediately.

Fulton County Schools 03.09.2020

Following the FCS Closing Matrix, we have met the criteria of a Level 2 at North Springs High School and in consultation with Fulton County Board of Health, we are switching to remote learning for Monday, Nov 9 and Tuesday, Nov 10 to allow for contact tracing. Individuals who will need to quarantine for longer will be notified directly. SAT tests scheduled at North Springs HS on Saturday, Nov 7 will continue. Facilities will be cleaned on Friday night. Protocols for entry, including temperature checks, will be conducted for those taking the test. We anticipate school resuming face-to-face instruction on Wednesday, Nov 11. Individuals who will need to quarantine for longer will be notified directly.

Shoutout to the amazing North Springs Charter High School students in work-based learning classes as well as teachers Ms. Tatlock & Ms. Diener & cafeteria workers who staffed the school’s poll site entirely themselves on Election Day. Students and staff went through training and were onsite ready to rock at 7 am! NSCHS student Divine Madubike, precinct manager, oversaw the process. Way to go with civic engagement North Springs! Is this an unprecedented occurrence in our district? Great job.
