We have had multiple reports of entering autos and car thefts in our residential areas, specifically the Dixon Drive area and Longstreet Hills area. Criminals target residential areas because the denser the population, the more opportunities they have for thefts. Many reports are indicating doors of vehicles were left unlocked with keys inside them. Criminals usually go for the path of least resistance, example: unlocked doors. The screenshot featured here was from a previous... case (resulted in arrests) in a Gainesville neighborhood where surveillance footage shows individuals pulling on car door handles as they canvass a Gainesville neighborhood. The black pickup truck in this photo was locked and the suspect moved on to find easier targets. Even though this resident wasn’t a victim of a theft, they were vigilant and immediately submitted this footage knowing that these suspects likely targeted other vehicles. Please stay vigilant and consider the following tips to help prevent property crimes: 1. Lock it. Ensure your car doors and all doors to your residence are kept locked. 2. Remove it. Removing valuables from your car is better than hiding them. This includes garage door openers and spare keys. 3. Light it. Leave exterior residence lights on at night or use motion-detecting lights. 4. Close it. Keep your garage door closed and double check it is closed at night. 5. Hide it. Keep valuables in your garage, car, and home out of sight. 6. Report it. Report all criminal and suspicious activity immediately. See more

Special thanks to the ever delicious The Inked Pig for the Christmas gifts!
We will have additional officers out this weekend looking out for you, marked and unmarked. #SpotTheCop
We wanted to share a heartwarming story with you about what a blessing our community can be. While we were at our Shop with a Cop event yesterday, an officer noticed a gentlemen subtly watching officers and children browse the shelves for Christmas shopping. It's common to see other curious shoppers glancing at what we are doing at Wal-Mart during Shop with a Cop. We totally understand, a group of police officers inside Wal-Mart would draw a lot of attention. It wasn't long ...after, this gentleman approached some of our officers and asked about the program. After a brief explanation, without hesitation, he quickly said he wanted to contribute to it! We explained that Pilgrim's - Gainesville and Walmart Supercenter Gainesville sponsor this event for us and it's taken care of already. He further asked if we had any other programs going on that would accept donations. We briefly talked about our Meals on Wheels partnered program, Secret Santa for Seniors. Next thing you know, he grabbed a handful of gift cards and went to the register. Mr. Greene of Greene Ford donated $1,000 worth of gift cards towards the Secret Santa for Seniors program. We truly believe he was not at Wal-Mart yesterday to shop, because he left with no shopping bags. His intentions were to come to Wal-Mart to help others and somehow our paths crossed. For this, we are extremely grateful! Thank you Mr. Greene!!
So proud of Ofc. Dickerson and her contributions to our community! #gpdfamily

We had a great night trick or treating with our brothers from the Georgia Department of Public Safety. #DriveSober #StaySafe
Special thanks to Pilgrim's - Gainesville and Walmart Supercenter Gainesville for sponsoring our annual Shop with a Cop program! We had to change things up a little bit this year and spread the event throughout the day, but we are thankful to share these precious moments with our Gainesville children. Events that bring us closer to our community would not succeed without our community partners. #WeAreGVL #ThankfulThursday

Around 9:30 PM Saturday, October 24, a black male (approx. 5'10", skinny build, wearing gray track jacket, sweat pants, Polaroid t-shirt, black shoes with white soles, & surgical facemask) entered the business brandishing a black handgun. He confronted the clerk and stole an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot behind the business. Fortunately, no one was injured during this incident.
