Located along the St. Marys River on the border of Georgia and Florida, White Oak is an amazing sanctuary for exotic breeds. Learn more about them at https://www.whiteoakwildlife.org/about/.
The emergence of the 17-year cicada never fails to attract interest. In 1885 a USDA entomologist wrote of the wonder of an insect that has appeared at regular intervals of 17 years "for centuries, aye, for ages, in the past!" This is the year Brood X will emerge, and sightings have already been reported in Lumpkin, Gilmer, Pickens and Union counties. In the days to come we'll be sharing reader images of cicada sightings, so show us yours. We'll start with a USDA drawing of the transformation of the cicada, published in 1898. #GaMarketBulletin
The next two days will be dicey, weather-wise. Have a plan, monitor local news sources or follow the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) on social media, and know the lingo! Stay safe, Market Bulletin friends. #gamarketbulletin
Georgia shrimpers are carrying on an 83-year-old tradition in Brunswick May 8th: The Blessing of the Fleet. Commercial shrimp boats and pleasure craft alike will get all gussied up to ask God's favor on their travels. The ceremony will be visible from shore, where a day-long festival celebrating Wild Georgia Shrimp will entertain all comers from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. #GaMarketBulletin Brunswick Blessing of the Fleet Festival Historic Downtown Brunswick
