Congratulations to #gwaclassof2021 senior Skylar Mercer! She is an active member of Beta Club and Gavel Club. Skylar enjoys helping our younger students by serving as a lower school peer tutor in the PARC. Piano was her favorite class, and she will remember the laughter and fun times in the piano lab. Max Misterka is in the #gwaseniorspotlight! He has been a dedicated member of the varsity soccer team, varsity swim team, Gavel Club, and the Student Ambassador program throughout high school. Max is also a member of NHS, Beta Club, and Student Council as well as a student intern in the GWA Advancement office. His favorite memory is presenting a Christmas tree to his first grader last December. After fourteen years at GWA, Max will head to Georgia Southern with plans to major in business. The #gwaseniorspotlight is shining on Courtlyn Moore! She has been a tough competitor on the varsity soccer team for the past four years, served as a varsity football team manager, and she is an active member of Beta Club and Latin Club. Her favorite GWA memory is participating in field day. Courtlyn will go from Bulldog to Bobcat when she heads to Georgia College in the fall to pursue a degree in nursing. Congratulations, Courtlyn! #gwaclassof2021
Sometimes you must make your thinking cap before you put it on. GWA fourth graders enjoyed making their own brain hats as part of their study of the nervous system. #gwafourthgrade #brainhat #humananatomy
Coach Lamonique Pierre and her 3rd grade division superstars are CHAMPIONSHIP bound following their 20-19 victory over Prince Avenue! They head to the big game next Thursday, 6 p.m. at Athens Christian (opponent tbd). Congrats to all! #gwayouthsports #gwahoops #gwaathletics #youthbasketball
In joint celebration of Black History Month and Valentine’s Day, the Honors Latin III and IV classes picked love songs recorded and made famous by Black artists. Their song selections range from as early as the 1950's to songs recorded in the last couple of years. Working in pairs, students listened to their song lyrics and chose their favorite verse or chorus and translated the selected lines into Latin. These Latin lyrics were then incorporated into vibrant, collaged album ...covers featuring photographs of the artists. Latin students also included a QR code on each album cover so that anyone passing by the display of covers could scan the code and enjoy the love song. All 12 songs selected for this project have been compiled into a Valentine’s Day playlist (link below) on Spotify called Carmina Amoris. Enjoy! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0kEunKrXD55wqsipeqEKC8 #blackhistorymonth #blackrecordingartists #lovesongs #latin #latinclass #happyvalentinesday
Enjoy your break, Bulldogs! We look forward to seeing everyone back on campus Tuesday, Feb. 16.
Congratulations to our varsity wrestlers and coaches on their season and success at the GHSA State Championship! State runner-up Perry Jake Stone (145) finished his season at 15-1 only losing to a two-time state champ in his final championship match. Michael Dagenhart (160) represented GWA well with two days of wrestling in the State Championship finishing 5th overall. Evan Newsom (126) made his first trip to State and had a great tournament going 2-2 on the day. Way to go, Bulldogs!
