What really isssss Fiber? Fiber-optic internet, commonly called fiber, is a broadband connection that can reach speeds of up to 940 Megabits per second (Mbps), with a low lag time. For comparison, a good internet connection is 25 Megabits per second!... Fiber-optic cables send data almost as fast as the SPEED OF LIGHT! That’s fast! The main difference between fiber and other types of internet (such as dial-up, DSL, or cable) is that it doesn’t utilize electric currents to work. It uses light, delivered through a fiberglass core. Something else that is pretty cool about Fiber? It’s not as susceptible to severe weather conditions, because the wires are buried underground, which helps minimize outages. Hurray for that right?!? Fiber internet is a great choice for high-bandwidth households or businesses where there’s a lot of traffic and multiple devices trying to connect at the same time. With faster speeds, you don’t get as many buffering or loading alerts compared to the other types of internet connections out there. HOT TIP Most people only count the computers in their office when tallying connected devices but that can be an oversight. Think about the phones, iPads, and more that use your internet. Most phones automatically update. That can be a drain on your internet speed. Here’s an example to compare the 4 types of internet connection and how long it would take to download a large media file (6.5 GB) on average for each: Dial-up: 11 days DSL: 1-14 hours Cable: 1 minute 14 hours Fiber: About a minute To learn more about fiber internet & what it could mean for your business, contact us at 706-823-2115 today!

It's all about speeeeed! Do your eyes glaze over when some tech guy starts getting giddy about fiber, upload and download speeds, and Megabits per second? Yea, we are those tech guys... but hey, I get it! Unless you know how Mbps (Megabits per second) relate to your productivity at the office or delay-free VoIP call, you really aren't interested.... ~ SO -- let's break it down QUICKLY and EASILY so you don't get circle talked into confusion the next time you have to make a tech decision for your business. ~ The simplest way to describe internet speed is to picture your internet connection as a water pipe. Obviously, the bigger the pipe the more water you'll get. That bigger pipe will fill your sinks, toilets, and showers A LOT FASTER than some dinky pipe trickling in. ~ Now think of internet loading time, call delays, and sketchy zoom calls like filling a bathtub. The smaller the pipe, the longer it will take to fill the tub. ~ NOW (Stay with me here) picture everyone in your house turning on the sink in the kitchen, the bathrooms, the shower down the hall, and flushing every toilet at the same time... ~ THAT'S YOUR OFFICE ALL DAY LONG! So of course slow internet speeds will slow down your productivity -- waiting around for an important document to send or download, restarting zoom because it kept cutting out, having to send an email because the phone delay was too bad you kept talking over each other. I know you what I'm talking about... sadly ~ So WHAT'S IT ALL BOIL DOWN TO? Better have a big enough pipe to keep the water flowing... *cough, cough* the internet speed better be strong ~ Want to check your internet speed? Use this cool tool: https://www.speedtest.net/ ~ Also, here's a great graph (courtesy of business.org) to reference when trying to decide exactly how much internet you need. It doesn't give you all the answers but it's a great place to start. ~ Make sure your speed matches your business model. If you need to adjust your office speed or if you have questions, Give us a call over at GABN - we promise to cut to the chase and not bore you with the tech talk Call us at 706-823-2115 today! These days a "Day at the office" isn't quite what it was... ~ Now, it consists of zoom meetings, mullet outfits (You know business on top, party on the bottom #PJday ) lunch breaks with the kids, and calling clients from home. ~ Everything may be off the rails lately but that doesn't mean we aren't still serving our clients and taking care of our employees at the highest level.... ~ That's why VOIP phone service is necessary now more than ever. ~ The last thing your employees need is a client call at 9pm at night... and on the flip side, no client deserves the pain of listening to Bob's Nsync ringback tone from 2005 either. ~ The best way to conduct business calls from home is with VOIP. (Phone service over the internet instead of a landline) ~ That way, it doesn't matter where your employees are, clients will always get the same quality experience, and your employees' work/home boundaries will remain intact. Well, until their kid comes barging in crying for chocolate milk... some things can't be helped If you want to chat about switching your business to VOIP with GABN just call us at 706-823-2115 #VOIP #workfromhome #internetsolutions #georgiasmallbusiness #Georgiabusiness

How to TROUBLESHOOT your internet phone service (VoIP) so your calls stop dropping and those other annoying VoIP pitfalls STOP happening! The great thing about having VoIP (Phone service over the internet instead of a landline) is the flexibility. You can call from ANYWHERE! Office phone, cell phone, computer - all using your office phone number... Clients only see your office number no matter where you call from - that way they don't call you back on your personal number You can set hours, forwarding, straight to voicemail, and even options like after-hours menus - depending on when people call All of that is great! But what about all the annoying things you run into with VoIP service? Dropped calls Echos Voice delays No phones when the internet goes out You may think these irritating issues are just part of VoIP phone service but actually, they're not! The big reason dropped calls and voice delays happen is internet instability. * * SO! What can you do about that? Are your internet provider and your ISP (internet service provider) the same company? YES? Call them and tell them about the issue. Most likely, they'll tell you that it's a network instability problem AKA your internet isn't functioning the way it should. Then ask them what they can do to fix it and if they can shift you over to another network while they figure it out... SIDENOTE - not every ISP has the ability to do this. If you want one that does, well... you'll have to call us *** * * NO? Call your VoIP service first and make sure your settings and plan are optimized and nothing is wrong. NEXT call your ISP and ask them to test your internet. MAKE SURE you are NOT talking to a salesperson! Ask to talk with a technical support person. * * Tell them the issues you're having and what they can do to fix it. In order to avoid downtime, ask them to shift you over to another network while they figure it out. Again, read the sidenote above If you have any questions about troubleshooting your VoIP issues, just comment below or shoot us a PM! Of course, you can always call us too - no drops, delays, or echos guaranteed! (at least not on our end) 706-823-2115

There is a great article @ consumer.ftc.gov about the importance of protecting ourselves from cyber criminals. The article states, "The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center reported that people lost $57 million to phishing schemes in one year." Needless to say, that is ALOT of money and time wasted fixing an issue that you can prevent. Consider allowing GABN to train your staff on cyber-security best practices so your business doesn't become the next victim.
