Great news for Georgia's Solid and Hazardous Waste Trust Funds. During this election, Georgia voters have overwhelmingly supported (nearly 82% and still counting) Amendment 1, an amendment to the state constitution that allows for the state legislature to "dedicate", or spend fees on the specific purposes for which the fees were collected. The collected fees for both of these funds have been diverted over recent years to other state programs and activities. The diversion of fee income has left the state with inadequate funds to properly clean-up these tire dumps and contaminated sites that pose a threat to public health, safety, and the environment. With the passage of Amendment 1, Georgians have voted in opposition to such diversions of funds. https://ballotpedia.org/Georgia_Amendment_1,_Dedicating_Tax
