With thousands of local school children using computers for online distance learning --- and then taking a break by playing with their digital devices -- Georgia’s eye doctors are urging parents to get their kids away from the screen and give those young eyes a rest. Overuse of screens and digital devices can lead to the development of myopia (nearsightedness) and put a child’s eye health at risk, a doctor of #optometry told WSB-TV's Wendy Corona. Thousands of Georgia stude...nts are learning remotely through online distance learning, said Dr. Jeanne Perrine, president of the Georgia Optometric Association. Unfortunately, because many have a digital device or play games on a computer, these students are going from one screen to the next and their eyes are not getting the rest they need. We could have a whole generation of Americans with increased levels of nearsightedness because their eyes are overstressed from using screens for school and play, stated Dr. Perrine.
