We’re coffee lovers here and it is time to spill the beans on #nationalcoffeeday . How can you be eco-friendly and a coffee lover? It’s easy! Not ready to give up your quick, one-cup machine? Ditch the single-serve cups/pods and get a reusable filter that you can fill with your favorite joe! How do you avoid paper filters/One-time use plastic pods which end up in landfills? Switch to eco-friendly brewers: French Press, Stainless Steel Pour Over Cone, and AeroPr...ess + Steel Filters. These last longer and they are cheaper in the long run! On the go? Another simple way is to bring your favorite travel mug. Do the world a favor and start taking your own mugs and tumblers your favorite coffee shops. The baristas will be glad to play a small part in reducing paper waste and you’ll feel proud of your eco-friendly coffee habit. Many locations give discounts for bringing your own too! And always, buy your beans from the right people. Some coffee roasters care very little about their environmental footprint. Look for sustainable Organic brands (grown without those harmful pesticides or fertilizers), Shade Grown (means safer for the rainforest and animals), Fair Trade Coffee (means the coffee was produced, purchased, and shipped with a focus on fair prices, humane working conditions, respect for the environment, and helping the developing world). Leftover used grounds? Did you know Coffee grounds are also packed with nutrients that can nourish plants and deter pests in your garden or Use grounds in your skin-care routine, caffeine, and antioxidants in coffee grounds may help combat cellulite, under-eye circles, and other signs of aging skin. What is your favorite way to brew? What’s your favorite eco-friendly way to enjoy a cup? #ecofriendly #coffeelover #reducereuserecycle

Today is World Elephant Day! To celebrate the WORLD’S LARGEST LAND ANIMAL here are some fun facts: Three species are currently recognized: the African bush elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant. Males only reach their full size at 35-40 years - that’s well over half their lifespan as wild elephants can live for up to 60-70 years. Elephant tusks are actually enlarged incisor teeth which first appear when elephants are around 2 years old. Tusks conti...nue growing throughout their lives. Elephants have around 150,000 muscle units in their trunk. Elephant calves are able to stand within 20 minutes of being born and can walk within 1 hour. After two days, they can keep up with the herd. Elephants are ecosystem engineers: They push over trees to maintain savanna ecosystems, excavate waterholes and fertilize land, which helps other plant and animal species thrive. : AELICE_/ISTOCK VIA GETTY IMAGES #worldelephantday #elephant #beelephantethical #stopivorytrade

Way to go Ocean Voyages Institute! They just broke the world record for the largest open-ocean clean-up in history. "The crew removed over 100 tons (200,000 pounds) of plastic on a 48-day voyage using a specialized GPS satellite tracking system that leads them straight to large jackpots of junk."

#DYK today is #WorldEnvironmentDay. The UN General Assembly established World Environment Day (#WED) in 1972 because the environment that we live in, is very important not only for our health but for our survival, so there is a huge need for us to protect it. Today be sure to pause & reflect on this #worldenvironmentday2020 & take time for nature to celebrate our wonderful home.
