Member #sundayspotlight goes to Jennifer Menken Jennifer has been a Game Changer in the running community! You can catch her at all the group runs, catching miles right after work. Her Story:... "I was in the Navy for 11 years, where I was forced to workout and maintain a certain weight. I hated working out and running. Only did it when I was forced to. After I got out of the navy, I picked up some unhealthy habits and soon found myself severely obese. I knew I had to make a change. I went on a low calorie diet, stopped drinking and started running. I chose to start running versus going to a gym because no one would be watching me and judging me. I could also get outside and go as far as my fat legs would take me. Within a year I had dropped almost 85 pounds and decided to compete in my first 5k, which was the Red Hot Chili Pepper race. I was hooked on running after that. I decided to get my courage up and join a running group through RWB. I soon found myself joining many other run groups, running almost 100 miles a month (when I'm not injured, which is frequently. Lol), and competing in almost every race I could attend. I'm still a slow turtle, but I'm the Little Engine Who Could and I just keep chugging along pounding out the miles. One of the greatest blessings was to be considered a part of the Run Family. I felt so honored. (I know that sounds corny. But that's my feelings). I'm hoping to compete in my first half marathon soon (I ran a virtual Half, but that was just for a baseline) and eventually a full marathon. One of my other goals is to run all of the Critz Tybee races. Eventually. In the meantime I'm just gonna work on picking up speed and pounding out miles."
