Gwinnett County Government’s Department of Community Services has joined forces with Goodr to knock out hunger by providing four pop-up grocery stores in underserved communities throughout Gwinnett. In July we officially launched the Goodr Foundation and kicked off our #neighborhoodeats program in the Thomasville community of #Atlanta. Every Saturday we provide a hot dinner for families and a hot meal to go, plus a meal pack with three meals for Sunday for children 1-18. Each week also has an activity like painting, tie-dye, games and more plus a resource. So far we’ve provided school supplies, clothing, haircuts, tennis shoes, cleaning supplies and much more. Last week ...we hired two tutors to join us weekly to assist our youth with homework or school projects. The program grows each week with more children and parents attending. Yesterday our team members took the youth on their first field trip. While less than .07 miles away, we learned that many of the participants had never been to the zoo nor to the park and we changed that! We voyaged to Zoo Atlanta on a charter bus, had a picnic in the park, toured the zoo, rode the train, the carousel and more - it was amazing! We are truly impacting the lives of these families every weekend. This is what we mean by embodying the #dogoodr spirit and being a force for good.
