GUY GILCHRIST Biography World-renowned illustrator, author, comic strip artist, and songwriter, Guy Gilchrist is best known as Jim Henson's cartoonist. He created the Muppets comic strip (printed worldwide in 660-plus newspapers daily from 1981 to 1986), and was instrumental in Henson's "Fraggle Rock," and the creation of The Muppet Babies. Some of his iconic Muppets artwork was enshrined in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. and his work was declared a Nation...al Treasure in 1984 by First Lady, Nancy Reagan. Throughout the years, Guy Gilchrist has set his hand to some of the most beloved, high-profile cartoons, such as "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, Tiny Toons, The Pink Panther, Minnie Mouse," as well as Nancy, created in 1938 by Ernie Bushmiller. For over 22 years (from 1995 2018), Guy continued the story of Nancy, Sluggo, Aunt Fritzi and all the characters of the internationally distributed strip before stepping away to pursue other interests. Gilchrist is also an award-winning writer and illustrator of children’s books (42 titles to his name, including the acclaimed Night Lights & Pillow Fights), garnering Reuben Awards from the National Cartoonists Society in the Best Book Illustrator category in both 1998 and 1999, and three Children’s Choice Awards by the International Reading Council. His latest book, Monster Dance, (penned by Eva Lou with illustrations by Gilchrist, and published by Madeleine Editions) will be released internationally on October 5 as both an animated, interactive Apple book or physical book. The book teaches young children how tame the COVID-19 monster and that with proper hygiene and careful safety measures, the monster is not nearly as scary. Whether I’m working on a childrens’ book or a panel for a daily cartoon strip, I shine the spotlight on some of the simplest little treasures life has to offer (like a flower that springs up out of nowhere, or the joy of children on a snow day)or I’ll point out some quirky human behavior like vanity or jealousy (Miss Piggy) or being lazy (Sluggo). Today Marvel announced it will follow DC in changing up the distribution chain. Galactic Quest has been dealing with Penguin Random House for some time now, so we don't expect any delays or problems. (We didn't miss a step when DC left Diamond.) What does this mean for Image, Boom, IDW, Dark Horse, AfterShock, and other quality publishers. Hard to say at this point, but Galactic Quest is dedicated to being your full service comic shop.... Many industries have struggled this past year. Fortunately collectible comics have seen a serious growth as new readers enter the market. We see these changes as opportunties and look forward to Free Comic Book Day 2021 and many other great GQ events.
