Some pictures from the 2021 GCVFR Basic Volunteer firefighter class. Today we did disoriented firefighter/ confined opening and tactical search and rescue. In total these guys will put in around 100 hours of total training to become a volunteer firefighters.

Hello All, We will be having an EMR class at the Decatur County Fire and Rescue classroom starting on February 2nd until March 25th. The class will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm-10pm. All dates are tentative to change including possibly a Saturday class.You will have to purchase your own book for this class which will be AAOS Emergency Medical Responder Fifth Edition. GCVFR has some great training opportunities coming up in the near future: First off we will have a Basic Volunteer/Support Firefighter class beginning in January. This class normally runs for about 3 months and is normally held on Tuesday and Thursday nights and some Saturday mornings. If you have ever wanted to become a firefighter and help out your community now is the time. We will have an introduction/orientation meeting December 15 at 7:00 pm at the Cairo County station ...located at 03 17th Ave NW right beside Ga Forestry offices. If you want to be a part of this class please contact Brock Ponder at 229-416-7889. Decatur County Fire and Rescue will be holding an EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) class and has invited us to send people. EMR class will start February 2nd and end March 25th. Class will be 6-10 every Tuesday and Thursday. The class will be held at the DCFR classroom. After completion of the class students will have the ability to take National Registry. Please contact Brock Ponder at 229-416-7889 if you would like to attend. And lastly Decatur County Fire and Rescue is also host a GEMA class called Rescue Specialist January 9th and 10th. Thanksgiving Reminders: * Do not fry a frozen turkey * To begin the fridge thawing process, plan on 24 hours per 5 pounds of frozen turkey * If you choose to deep fry your turkey with a propane set, make sure you fry in a ventilated area away from structures... * If you are frying something inside the house and it catches fire do no put water on hot grease. If you are able, cover the flames with a metal lid and turn off the heat source (doing so without being burned). Smother the fire with baking soda or salt, as a last resort use a Class B dry chemical fire extinguisher. See more
