Y’all, Jerry Davis, Jr. is a local treasure. At age 15, Jerry began working alongside the restaurant’s founders-his Mama’s sister, Louise Hudson, and his grandm...other, Inez Hill - at downtown Macon’s iconic H&H Soul Food. As the Head Cook, Jerry’s smile is infectious as he recounts his nearly 30 years of warm memories at the restaurant with his family. Jerry laughed recalling the times the Allman Brothers and their many band friends would pile into the restaurant and, upon realizing that Jerry was in the kitchen solo, would help him cook and serve, still leaving a big tip because they were so grateful for a delicious meal. He also recalls Oprah’s visit to Macon and how excited all three women- Oprah, Mama Hill, and Mama Louise- were to meet and visit, that Oprah was unable to squeeze in a meal. The next day, with the same spirit of the many meals provided for Band members through the years, the H&H founders prepared a delicious travel pack of their home cooking so Oprah could enjoy a taste of the South during her flight home. While Jerry cannot claim a favorite menu item, he is committed to the quality of his cooking. He samples every dish every day to make sure he is providing customers with his trusted best in taste. Jerry’s favorite part of continuing the H&H tradition is in meeting life-long Macon residents who experience his cooking for the first time. He affirms that they they soon become regular customers and he loves visiting with all guests, old and new. After satisfying the appetites of Macon and visitors from around the world each day, Jerry loves spending time with his family including his wife, two daughters, three young grandsons and a granddaughter due early next year! Thanks for keeping Macon well-fed and for sharing your love with the local community, Jerry. Mama Hill and Mama Louise are surely proud of you for carrying on the family legacy. If these walls could sing... . . .... Warren Haynes is an American musician, singer and songwriter. Haynes is best known for his work as longtime guitarist with the Allman Brothers Band and as founding member of the jam band Gov't Mule. Early in his career he was a guitarist for David Allan Coe and The Dickey Betts Band. Haynes also is known for his associations with the surviving members of the Grateful Dead, including touring with Phil Lesh and Friends and the Dead.
